The Matchmaker

Money paid.

Crucial details given.

Sifting through referrals, I endured numerous frogs on my quest.

Discouraged, fear consumed me.

With hope dwindling fast, his credentials magically arrived.

I couldn’t resist trying again.

When our eyes met, I glimpsed forever.

The rest: history.

Hope

That moment of unprotected violence,

Sarah barely escaped with her life.

She struggled to erase the nightmarish memories with drugs.

Unfortunately,

the unthinkable happened.

Nine months later a baby is born.

Plagued forever with brain defects, she fights.

Ironically, her name is

Hope.

When Memories Fade

Flipping through pictures used to bring Grandma joy as she recalled each precious moment frozen forever in each setting.
She used to be able to think of the funniest anecdotes about the people and places featured eliciting giggles from anyone within earshot.
Slowly the memories began to fade to the farthest reaches of her mind until they were mere glimmers and then extinguished entirely.
Instead of bringing joy and precious memories, the photographs began to bring a sense of loss and sadness which resulted in an immediate sense of anxiety and fear.
The only memory she managed to miraculously retain was her lifelong relationship of love, devotion, and faith in Jesus to guide her to the unwavering beacon of light ahead where the anxiety and fear could no longer torment her.

Childhood Recycled

Desperately wanting a Radio Flyer for my toddler son, I paid my parents a visit to locate my old wagon in their garage.  I found it, paint faded and tinged with rust, on their patio overflowing with potting soil and blooming daffodils.
