Somehow you cope with whatever gets thrown at you. You would be amazed. Somehow you just know what to do, and do it. Then you freak out later about just how close you came to losing them and count your blessings. Though they were never life threatening, just alarming and threw daily life into a tail spin. Not sure how you coped. There were many times when my mom's blood pressure dropped dangerously low while she was on dialysis, but they would get her back. Scary stuff. Dialysis is a means to prolong life and can work for a while. It is very taxing on the body but it buys you more time. By the time I found my Dad probably 8-24 hours had passed. I will never know how long he laid there unable to move. By the time I got him to the hospital his prognosis was not good. He spent 2 months in hospital before going into cardiac arrest and another stroke claimed him. He was driving with his wife taking his Inlaws to the airport to fly home--when he started slurring his speech and making no sense. They finally convinced him to pull over on the interstate (he's a retired policeman--so it took some convincing) and his father in law drove up to the next exit where luckily there was a hospital. The doctors said that they caught it so fast he would make a full recovery. I think it is divine intervention when that sort of thing happens--same for you when you were driving and saw that sign.

Great post, Kathy! My oldest brother has entered end stage renal failure and has hemodialysis three days a week. It's a scary time and hard for me to be 5 hours away by car. I'm grateful that this particular time worked out okay for your mom, your dad and you.Amy Morganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10613446967051981724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5303475796807404950.post-49497543955580246702012-05-17T16:21:27.263-04:002012-05-17T16:21:27.263-04:00Darlene, we were terrified but so relieved when we...Darlene, we were terrified but so relieved when we finally got to see her for ourselves.
