Knock, Knock

Knock, knock.  She coughed, fresh blood peppering her handkerchief.   Bone weary, rankled with pain, her breaths shallow and spare.    Knock, knock.  Persistent knocking, rattling her brains.  Enough!   Flinging open the door, embracing death, welcoming everlasting life.   The valiant warrior succumbs. Sweet relief.

  1. Nicely done. Very poetic. Welcoming death, but hesitantly. Perfect.

    1. Pat, I did a bit of research into this concept because I thought the same thing. I have always believed that Jesus was the collector of souls, that you would go with Him to heaven when you die if you believed. So I looked up the connection. Evidently the "grim reaper" came from the book of Revelations and is actually Jesus collecting souls. Because of that connection, I felt confident in proceeding on with the writing of this story and using the image above to illustrate it. There is a lot of symbolism and freaky stuff in the book of Revelations so seems legit. Thanks so much for stopping by and for your much appreciated comments! ♥

  4. I keep telling people that Death is a nice guy. Still, they run from him. I just don't get it.

    1. TMW, I did a bit of research and found that the grim reaper and Jesus were considered one and the same. Evidently they get the imagery from Revelations?? Both are collectors of souls. I am so pleased you enjoyed my little story. By all rights, since I didn't make the voting grid this week, and since I was literally dying from this cold, coughing up my vagina and internal organs, I should have skipped writing altogether! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
