AWOL-BFF 206

I can’t imagine anyone who has ever worked not wanting to go AWOL occasionally.  Maybe the weekend beckons or it is an especially lovely day outside.  In my case, whenever my husband comes home it becomes so easy to go AWOL from my computer.

I have signed up for NaBloPoMo which challenges me to blog each and every day for the last several months.  Every month the new NaBloPoMo comes out and I am bitten by the writing bug, tempted by the slew of new writing challenges, and I can’t help myself.  I sign up again and then almost as quickly I panic wondering if this month I should have avoided it and taken a break.  Eventually everyone needs one.  It is possible to get burned out writing constantly.

During the week I post daily without much problem or hesitation.  I might have to wait till late at night for inspiration to bite me in the a$$ but eventually I get the job done even if it is in the final hour.  The weekend arrives and then all of a sudden my diligence starts to lapse.  Add my husband’s arrival home into the mix, and my desire to sit at my computer and create or empty my brains goes right out the window.  I go AWOL from cyber space without a backward glance.  Still there is that tiny shred of guilt that nags at me, reminding me that I have to get it together and write something because I signed up to blog everyday.

Sometimes life steps in.  Maybe you get sick, or your kids do.  Even though it is rare there is the possibility that I may actually be out having a life with my family instead of glued to my computer typing away.  Maybe a holiday has rolled around and celebrations take precedence.  Whatever the reason, whether it is the arrival of my husband, a holiday, sickness, or just a lovely warm day on the outside the urge to jump ship and go AWOL happens.  Everything in life takes a certain amount of dedication, but every now and then it is healthy to take a break.  It doesn’t mean that you have lost your mojo or you have transformed into a lazy a$$.  Sometimes you just got to get away when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

  1. LOL... I am AWOL more and more. It feels good to be free.

I admire those of you who can blog daily AND THEN come back and respond to comments. I guess I'm just not dedicated enough. I write when I feel like it and often forget to go back for comments. I'm bad... I knowwww.....

    1. Darlene, Whatever works for you!! I love your stories when you do choose to write. I guess I am driven, always have been in things that I do. I zero in on something and then knock myself out doing the very best I can. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments! ♥

  2. Everyone needs a break now and then--totally understandable. I know I've been AWOL for awhile. My break has far surpassed anything I could have imagined--but I'm coming back...slowly :) Jenn

    1. Danneromero, I have started having second thoughts about this every day business, but as long as the ideas come, the words flow, and I am inspired and enjoy doing it, I will continue as I am. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments!♥

  4. I"ve really gotten off track lately with school being out and getting my daughter settled in New York...but, when we're in our "blogging groove," we can become unstoppable! Good job, Kathy! :0

  5. Been meaning to ask, what does the 'BFF' mean? I always read it as 'best friends forever'. Also, I thought NaBloPoMo was only done for one month, not every month. No wonder you feel pressured! :)

  6. Fun post! It's summer too!!!

I thought this time I would use the writing prompts but finding those tougher than I expected.

I always have something less creative/fun that needs doing so blogging is a little bit my escape : )

    1. Ann, sometimes my brain goes blank when I see a prompt but eventually something comes to me, and then it just flows from somewhere within. Sometimes I struggle but it always is fun. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!!

  7. I sometimes am drawn to write and sometimes, no such desire. I have never felt that I am obligated to blog. Would never want to be obligated. I have an addictive personality and the one area I have not allowed such an addiction is my writing. I have always feared that I would go overboard and lose my love of the written word. I am sure that would happen with me as it has happened with so many other things that I thought I loved. Overdoing anything for me is a sure Rx for loosing my love of it.
Anytime writing a blog feels like a 'chore' I don't write it. The same with reading. On the days it feels like work, I don't read. Writing and reading are both just for fun for me and I need to keep them casual and only when I feel it's right and comfortable.

    1. Jo, when it gets to that point for me where I no longer enjoy it you won't see me doing it. If you see me miss a day, it is because I needed a break. Sometimes it has been because my internet has been turned off at the time. When my internet is on, I write and make the most of it. I think I am the same way. I think I overdid it with my art to the point I had my fill and I quit cold turkey. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind, wise comments! ♥

  8. I'm glad, Kathy, that you enjoy blogging so much. You are a good writer and your consistency peaks my interest as well as many other readers, it seems. It pleases me to know that you really enjoy writing.

I haven't added anything to my blog for three weeks. Just returned yesterday evening from a two-week road trip visiting family in other states. Then, there was the week of preparation and packing for the trip. I enjoyed the freedom of not worrying about working with my blog. But, now I'm ready to get back to work. So, this is my pattern and it may not be good for my ranking. But, I'm comfortable with it.

    2. Yes, Kathy, I'm having a wonderful summer since I've been able to travel around the country and be with my family! Spent a "Girl Cousin's Week" the end of May. Then, we enjoyed the two-week road trip mentioned above. Did encounter a problem as mentioned in a comment to your post on this summer's wrath yesterday. Thanks for your encouragement.

  9. I once made a promise to myself to blog once a week. I did it for awhile... then apparently ran out of things to say!

Thanks for the link to NoBloPoMo. I have seen it mentioned many times but did not know where it was. I'm sure I couldn't blog every day, but it's nice to know where to go to get some prompts!

Any clue what the name stands for?

    1. Lee, I am not sure how I got into the everyday groove but at this point it is almost scary...it is like I can't not post everyday. LOL Guilt starts creeping. It is like something I must do. When I first started NaBloPoMo, I had no clue how to pronounce it and kept forgetting what it was called so I started calling it the blow me prompts. LOLOLOLOLO Since then I have figured it out. I have no clue what it stands for. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments!! ♥
