Would I rather travel to space or go deep into the ocean? When I was a kid I was fascinated with outer space. I thought it would be cool to travel beyond the blue skies and fluffy clouds and see the brilliant stars and planets beyond. I read books about it, watched television shows about it, and even did a science fair project about outer space in the 4th grade. When I was in high school we were allowed to watch the lift off of the Challenger, which turned out to be the biggest disaster ever to hit NASA. It was the first time a civilian, Christa McAuliffe, would be allowed to hitch a ride on a rocket ship to space. She was a teacher, and it was big news. I remember sitting in my senior government class and watching the liftoff with my classmates and the explosion that killed everyone aboard. That one disaster plus the fact that I am terrified of roller coasters pretty much killed any fantasies of going to the final frontier for me.
For me, I would rather travel under the sea! I would take a camera along to capture the beauty of the coral, sea plant life, and all the creatures living there. I would love to explore shipwrecks like the Titanic and other long forgotten ships who met their doom on the ocean’s floor. I would be on the lookout for mermaids whether they are mythical creatures or not. Of course, I know there would still be dangers down there. I have no desire to be shark bait! The movie “Jaws” has always freaked me out a little. Still, I would love to see for myself the beauty that lies beneath the surface. A whole other world lies beneath the waves and I could imagine me exploring that a lot faster than outer space.
The idea of me being blasted up into the air in a space suit, when I have never even rode on an airplane, paints a picture of me packaged in my own $hit and vomit which isn’t really appealing. I just can imagine every bodily function taking over as soon as the stupid rocket lifted off. So book me a trip under the sea to the coral reefs and a nice little explore of a sunken ship! I will get a new camera for the occasion guaranteed to capture all the wonders that I am sure to find until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.
