Rumors

NaBloPoMo asks:
“Is it OK to add “just kidding” after a surprising statement?”

Well, there in lies the question.  I have never been a person that could take a joke.  I usually believe that if someone bothers to tell me something it should be gospel or why would they bother saying it?  I tend to be a straight shooter and only attach the “just kidding” tag to something completely outrageous that couldn’t possibly be true in the first place.  I don’t get my jollies at someone else’s expense and I am generally not impressed with others who do.

Playing malicious pranks on someone so the world can laugh at them for being so gullible and trusting is just about the lowest of the low.  Instead of thinking this is funny, I am usually appalled.   Maybe there is something drastically wrong with me, but I usually find absolutely nothing humorous in shocking someone or making someone else feel bad.

Setting someone up so everyone can laugh at them is beyond rude and cruel.  No “just kidding” will ever smooth it over.  Throwing in a “just kidding” only undermines a person’s credibility and shows who they really are.   Some people need to learn how to act and what is funny and what is not.  Like I have said numerous times in the past I despise people who get their jollies stirring the $hit and have little patience for them.

Life is entirely too short to deal with crap like that.    So in answer to the question, is it OK to say “just kidding” at the end of a surprising statement my answer is if it is outrageous and couldn’t possibly be true, then yes, but if any shred could have a glimmer of believability in it than my answer is a resounding hell no.  The beauty is that what goes around always comes around eventually to bite the rumor spreading, gossip monger where the sun refuses to shine.  In the end that kind of justice is the sweetest of all until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

  2. We disagree on something! I can't believe it! I love a good practical joke, as long as, it isn't a mean one. Some of those I love later, if not at the time. Speaking of ME being the victim. I am not good at pulling them and don't do it, but I am pretty good at being the subject of one. If you like doing them, you have to be careful of your target, it has to be someone who will be able to laugh and not be hurt by the stupidity of the joke. I think it's all relevant to the target and the perpetrator. That relationship has to be one that can withstand a little fun poking and the joke has to be funny.
So, I will NEVER try to have anyone put one over on you and I won't be putting any over at all, so we're all good!

A crazy and off the wall sense of humor is required AND both people have to possess that!

    1. Jo, I am thinking at this point I should have given the example that formed this whole post. I took it out because it would have been pretty obvious who I was talking about and I didn't want to stir the $hit anymore than it had been. I love to laugh and can find the funny in just about anything. But when someone asks for information in good faith and another person makes up malicious lies thinking it is funny in an effort to pull their chain, I don't think it is funny...I think it is stupid and the person is an a$$. This whole post was centered on the kind that are just plain mean and in poor taste, the kind that are not really funny at all. I am happy to say that no one else had the poor taste to jump on this person's band wagon and participate to make the lies grow larger. A joke is one thing. I have been teased maliciously a few too many times in life to ever do that to anyone else. If it is likely to hurt someone's feelings or embarrass them it just is not funny to me at all. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!

  3. I also don't agree with you at this juncture. Life is much too short to not enjoy a hearty laugh. Because of humor, I've only been sick one time in my life. I attribute it to humor. Seriously, try it.

    1. Jeremy, I agree with you and will be the first one to laugh heartily at nothing in particular. You just won't find me being malicious or making up lies about someone in an effort to be funny. That is not funny at all. I have a great sense of humor and your comments makes me realize that I didn't make myself clear. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments.

  4. Found your blog through my friend Lanthie at Lifecherries. Glad I did ! As far as practical jokes go, I have to admit that in my family we do that sort of stuff to each other all the time, but not to others---I don't like stuff that is mean spirited and hurtful. I grew up with that and as a result, was an extremely self-conscious kid. Now I just make fun of myself---but in a good way! I've learned not to sweat the small stuff and cut the "meanies" out of my life for good---no need for negative energy here! Great blog you have here---I am going to join now on your GFC. Hope you'll visit me at http://Menopausalmother.blogspot.com

  6. I totally agree with you, I don't laugh at someone's expense (period.) Nor do I find it funny when people crack a joke on my expense.

I am glad you put the words out there so people would do it less.

    1. Journey of Life, thank you!! Yes!! Someone who gets me! It is not that I don't have a sense of humor, it is that I don't ever think anything is funny when it is at someone else's expense. I am so pleased you stopped by, put in your 2 cents, and I thank you for reading and for your comments! ♥

  7. I think people who play practical jokes are usually insecure and are trying to get popularity by putting someone else down.

  10. Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this blog. It's sіmplе, yet effеctive.
A lot of times it's hard to get that "perfect balance" between usability and appearance. I must say you have done a very good job with this. Also, the blog loads very fast for me on Opera. Exceptional Blog!
