Did you have a favorite stuffed animal as a child? Lots of kids do. I can’t say that I honestly had a particular favorite. I remember having a whole menagerie that covered my twin sized bed encircling me and leaving me a small place to curl up in a ball to sleep. They watched over me at night keeping the bogeyman away and me safe and were active participants of my games during the day. I treated each and everyone the same.
Of that menagerie, only two cuddly friends have survived. One Christmas my mother made me a Raggedy Ann doll. I thought she was awesome, and I still have her. I treasure her because my mom made her for me, especially now that my mother is gone. These days she straddles a huge china bull which sits on top of my kitchen cupboards.
The other cuddly friend that survives is my clown doll “Clownie”. Unfortunately when Puppy Love was a young rambunctious pup he got a hold of Clownie and almost tore his foot off. My husband felt sorry for Clownie and nailed him up on the bedroom wall by his hat so he would come to no more harm.
Unlike me both kids have attached themselves to one stuffed animal in particular. We got my daughter a stuffed monkey at Toys R Us when she was 2. She carried that monkey everywhere when she was a little tike. Since then, Monkey has a special place on her bed so he is always available for special cuddles.
My son received a stuffed frog in his Easter basket when he was a year old. He has loved Froggy every since. When he is sick or hurting, it is Mommy and Froggy he seeks for comfort.
What would childhood be without these small comforts to get us through the day to day? Even now my extra special friends from my childhood still watch over me and bring me comfort. As my kids grow up, I am sure their favorites will do the same and always hold a special place in their hearts
I used to fill up a large refrigerator box with all my stuffed toys and jump into it off of the couch. I think I only got away with that when Baba (grandma) was babysitting though :) I got rid of all of my stuffed toys just recently and only have my original Cabbage Patch doll tucked away in a trunk of keepsakes somewhere.

Brandy, those big refrigerator boxes were so much fun. Not sure what is so wonderful about boxes but most kids would rather play in a cardboard box than an expensive playhouse. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments.
DeleteI still have a lot of my stuffies from childhood. My best friend was Trax, my stuffed horse. He's threadbare and still in the box from when I moved. I loved stuffed animals....they were my only friends. I was a lonely little girl. BTW, I also have a Clowny.
ReplyDeleteJoJo, I used to have a lot of stuffed animals. Not quite sure what happened to them all over the years. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments.
DeleteI always had snuggly bunnies, ironically now in my adult years rabbits scare the hell outta' me!
ReplyDeleteMimi, that is funny! LOL Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments.
DeleteI wish I knew what happened to all of my favorite stuffed animals! I had a lot, too! I think it is sweet that you still have the Raggedy Ann doll from your mother. That is something precious you can pass down to your own kids once they are older!
ReplyDeleteMenopausal Mama, I know, right? I think they may have fell into the black hole that swallowed all of mine. LOL I am glad I have the Raggedy Ann because she took the time to make it for me. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments.
DeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! I decided to make your blog the next stop on my road trip as well. My favorite stuffed animal was a puppy. I named him Puppy. He went everywhere with me. I barfed on him when I was sick. He went into the lake with me when I was three and fell out of a canoe. My mom fished him out of the water. He's beaten up, but I still have him! He sits in a place of honor on the shelf.
ReplyDeleteLG, he is really special if you barfed on him!! Love it! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments!
DeleteCharlie was a pink and blue polyester bear with a velver orange bow around his neck. He was stuffed with my mothers old nylons. My sister made him for me when she was twelve and I was 5. He was one of her first sewing projects. I still have him. She sewed his face on with yarn and a leather button nose.
ReplyDeleteZoe, Charlie sounds cool! Wish I could see a picture of him although you gave a pretty good description. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments!
DeleteMy favorite childhood stuffed toy was a brown stuffed dog named Ruff Ruff. He was a gift from my dad.
ReplyDeleteThis is embarassing but I still sleep with a stuffed toy until now - a stuffed chipmunk named Chinoop.
Dee, I think you are just A-OK. I don't sleep with any stuffed animals anymore but I do sleep with 4 loud snoring dogs. They should count for something. LOL Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments.
DeleteI still have mine. His name is Pretty Baby. He is a strange rabbit with a human face.
ReplyDeleteTayla, I remember seeing things like that!! Thank you for stopping in and for your kind comments!

ReplyDeleteCorinne, now that is a line of wisdom...not sure what it has to do with my blog post but I surely appreciate you stopping by to read and for your contents.
DeleteThe frog is so cute. I still have my Patsy doll and my Teddy that my dad brought back from England in 1962. Teddy usually stayed home but Patsy travelled everywhere with me.
ReplyDeleteSuzy, awesome! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteI had a stuffed lamb with a music box inside that played Mary Had a Little Lamb. I wore it out.
