Here's how it works: Submit a writing between 33 and 333 words using this week’s one-word prompt:
CRAFT (noun) skill in deceiving to gain an end <used craft and guile to close the deal>
My fictional story is 114 words.
Sarah loved
to cook and was an accomplished chef. Her
husband seemed to love her cooking almost as much as he enjoyed beating her. Anymore her cooking was the only thing she did he didn't criticize.
Last
night she had spent 6 hours in the emergency room after he taught her another painful
lesson. The official record stated it
was just another fall down the stairs. She
had lived in this nightmare for over a year and enough was enough.
Oh yes! So concise! So cold and calculating. Wonderfully laid out and wrapped up!
ReplyDeleteGood job, Miss K

ReplyDeleteAyush, she obviously got sick of his abuse and saw no other alternative. Her idea of self defense. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteBeautifully narrated in only 114 words. Loved it Kathy.
ReplyDeleteshilpasharmaonline, I am so pleased you enjoyed it! I am new at this fiction business and still very tentative at storytelling so it is always nice to have praise. Thank you so much for stopping by to read and for your sweet comments. They mean so much to me!! ♥

ReplyDeleteSelf Storage Irvine Box-n-Go
Catherine, thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteIt is good for her to teach him a lesson. But killing him is the right thing to do or not... I don't know.
ReplyDeleteWell written. :-)
-HA
howanxious, perhaps she feared him so much that she feared what he would do to her in retaliation if he survived. Not sure I have much sympathy for someone who beats their wife without mercy. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments. ♥
DeleteI'd hate to be in the position of having to make such a desperate choice. She may end up free from him, but locked up in prison...
ReplyDeletejannatwrites, evidently she just wants free of him and isn't concerned about anything else. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteThat's some secret ingredient...
ReplyDeleteDraug, potent and deadly. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments! ♥
DeleteAre you trying to kill me with your creepiness??? Stop! Write something happy, joyful - Christmasy! :p
ReplyDeleteMiMi, no! Not sure where the creepiness is coming from. LOL I may have to exhaust the creepers before anything else comes out of the woodwork. LOL Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteAh...good for her. The bugger.
ReplyDeleteKelly, I agree. I think he deserved it. If she hadn't done him in, her attempt would have infuriated him enough to beat her again or even perhaps kill her. She was tired of living in fear. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteKathy, Why do some men do this? Never can fathom...
ReplyDeleteGreat the heroine is free finally thanks to Sauce! :)
Kathy, I have nominated you for my Liebster & Creative Blogger Award!
I know you have lots in your kitty! Here's another! :)
Please check out my Post-

anitaexplorer, I think they have a lot of rage built up inside of them. Then maybe they drink too much and the fine line between what is right and what is wrong is blurred. They take it out on who is the closest to them...a wife. Not sure either. Just know that no one deserves to live in an abusive relationship. I suffered in one for over 4 years myself and looking back I feel fortunate to get out of it alive. I don't think you think about repercussions in a situation like that. You just want the abuse to end and to not be afraid anymore. Thank you so much for the awards! I truly appreciate the recognition!! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥

ReplyDeleteCrisp and cool, loved it:-) He had it coming-awful man!But I hope she has covered her tracks-no point in suffering later ;-)
Atreyee, ah yes. Being the accomplished chef she is I believe she would be very innovative by boiling him in his own pudding then feeding the villain to the dogs leaving no trace of him. Thank you for stopping in and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteVery clever writing! Such a twist in the tale and you wonderfully connected cooking with violence. Hats off!!
ReplyDeleteRicha, I am so pleased you enjoyed it! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments. You have made my day! ♥
DeleteThat's a recipe I don't want tried out on me, but who can blame her? Freedom is such a powerful motivator. Thanks for linking up and don't forget to come back and vote!
ReplyDeleteTrifecta, to some freedom is everything and personal safety and happiness also play a role. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! This was my very first attempt at a Trifecta challenge and it was a lot of fun. I look forward to participating more in future! ♥
DeletePoison - the sauce of choice for battered wives!
ReplyDeletekymm, ah yes! The perfect sauce for battered wives with no other alternative. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
Deleteit's kinda tragic story but I love it, this part of the story "Her husband seemed to love her cooking almost as much as he enjoyed beating her." makes me sad
ReplyDeleteJewel, it is sad when you are left with no other alternative. Still she used her strengths to get her out of an impossible situation. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments about my little story! ♥
DeleteToo often, a woman suffers in silence and endures the abuse. Nice to see her fight back through the only avenue she had left to her. I enjoyed your tale.
ReplyDeleteCherrypickens, from experience I know you feel as if it is all your fault and somehow you deserve it. Then one day something snaps and you decide you have had enough and finally fight back. In my case, it took the fun out of it for him and he left and divorced me. I was free. Still others endure and if they try to get away, the abuser follows because they feel a sense of ownership and a feeling to have vengeance on their victim for even thinking they could leave. I am so pleased you enjoyed my tale. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteGlad she is ending her miseries! Liked your take on the prompt, wonderful story!
ReplyDeleteShilpa, I am so pleased you liked my story. I am grinning from ear to ear now! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
