Doesn’t anyone, anywhere write letters or
send cards in the mail anymore? Could there be anything better than walking out to the mailbox and finding something other than bills or advertisements? Sadly the days for sending cards or letters (now referred to as snail mail) is a thing of the past. People just don’t do it. It is so much easier to shoot an email to someone or type up a status on Facebook. A few keystrokes and you’re done. Not only that, it is cheaper, and instantaneous. You don’t have to wait for the mailman to show up.
Recently a blogging group with whom I
am affiliated, Blog-A-Rhythm, challenged all of us to connect via snail
mail. It was during a time when I was
taking a break from the internet and writing.
Quite honestly, I hadn’t even seen the buzz about it on the group wall
on Face Book. My dear friend Hema (you
all know her as Pixie @ Pixie’s Take on Everything.), enlightened me. Her
way of enlightening me was telling me she needed my address because she wanted
to send me something. OK dokey! It was after the fact that I realized that it
was for a writing challenge and a way for all of us connected online to become
more connected in the real world.
Anyways, one day the mail came and I discovered a lovely card from my dear friend. She couldn’t have found a more inspiring card for me. I simply love it. It sits right beside my computer so I can read it whenever I need inspiration or self-affirmation. She believes in me, and I believe in her. She is one amazing storyteller and collects college degrees of all sorts like I collect movies and card games. Just goes to prove she is scary smart.
I am blessed to have such a dear friend. My life is better because of her. I have met people from all over the world through blogging. My life is richer because of them, and I hope that in some small way their lives are richer for knowing me.

what a sweet blog post and a wonderful friend you have. It's always a treat when a friend send a card or a note in the mail.
ReplyDeleteEmily, I am so pleased you liked it! She is pretty special. Glad I have her. Thanks for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteThat's so nice!!! :) One of my friends joined a penpal club and she's always writing letters to them. She's into making envelopes from pretty papers and using a fountain pen. I've noticed that when I handwrite, I make a lot of spelling mistakes. Really bad ones. I find myself crossing small Ls like a t when I don't mean to. Reversing letters. Adding the letter 'e' onto the end of words that don't have them. It's just easier and faster to type.
ReplyDeleteJoJo, I tend to be a freakishly good speller, one of my gifts. Still I never write letters. I prefer writing on my computer because it is far faster and easier to type plus you have the advantage of spellcheck, grammar check, and a thesaurus at your finger tips. Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteDegree collecting? There is a new one haha yeah, blogging sure let's us meet great people from all over. My hand writing is very very bad, so I'm thankful for email.
ReplyDeletePat, it took me forever to perfect my signature. I love it the way it is. Still when I actually write I have the tendency to do a mixture of print and cursive. Email is so much quicker and easier, still I loved getting the surprise in the mail. That was priceless. Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteThis is lovely, really. I am not a fan of snail mail. Sending or receiving. I love the digital age of paperless communication. So neat and fast and instantaneous answers. Yep, that's my style. Snail mail irritates me, to be honest.
ReplyDeleteJo, on this subject we agree, however, I still love the card. Utterly amazing. Thank you for stopping in and for your lovely comments! ♥
DeleteOh, wow, what a beautiful card and note! You will always treasure it, I'm sure, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteMartha, I am so pleased you liked it! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteI love mail. When I come across an old letter, I feel some sorrow. There is such a capture of time in a handwritten message.
ReplyDeleteAnn, I have very few cards/letters that I have kept. Those that I have are very special to me. Thanks for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteOh that's a such a thoughtful note Pixie has sent for you. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love exchanging snail mails with my son. Love the whole process of writing, posting and then waiting in anticipation :)
Shilpa, I haven't got any form of snail mail in years so this is a real treat. Most folks have gone completely to sending emails, text messages, and instant messages on Face Book. Thanks for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteOh I love snail mail. That thrill of finding something in your letter box other than phone bills and electricity bills is quite something. It was fun to read your post.
ReplyDeletetulika, to be honest I wish I found things like this in my mailbox more often! Thanks so much for stopping by to read and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteAw! I love it. I think in this day of instantaneous communication, the old fashioned way definitely takes on new meaning. Going back a couple decades, it really was a slower era, one where we had fewer time pressures. We evolve to our times, eh? I love that idea and the card. So sweet!
ReplyDeleteCrystal, it definitely means a whole lot more than the hastily sent message. I love this card, and I think the old fashioned way is best. Unfortunately, I am in the minority. Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
Deletewhat a beautiful card :D it's so wonderful to receive something through snail mail. I am waiting for mine :)
