7 Things I Must Do Every Day

1)      Every day that happens to be a school day I have to get up at the butt crack of dawn and wake each of my children, one by one.  Now that my oldest is in junior high that means my alarm goes off at 5:30 in the morning.  Almost a month into the school year and I am sorry, 5:30 in the morning is entirely too early for anyone to be up looking about let alone rushing out in the dark chilly air.  I wonder if as the year unfolds if I am still as bleary eyed at 5:30 in say December as I am now.  Even the sun has the sense not to be up, so why must I?  I am not a morning person; I am more of a night owl.  My son is getting to be more of a challenge to wake.  He is also a night owl.  Where my daughter grudgingly bounces out of bed and gets on with it, my son stays in bed as long as he can.   I entice him out of bed with promises of cereal and a game of cards.  It works every time.  Lately we play a game I got recently called GUBS.  We love it!!  Being the protective mother hen I am, I walk each of them out to their bus stop.  I walk my oldest half way and wave from afar before heading home because staying longer makes me feel like a stalker in that large group of teenagers and is so NOT cool.  My son is a lot younger so it is still cool for me to stand at the bus stop with him and hug and kiss him goodbye in front of God, everyone, and our neighbors.

2)      I wash dishes every single day.  You would think that there wouldn’t be such a mountain of dirty dishes when all I get done doing is washing dishes.  There always is.  I love to cook, so you have to pay the price around the waist line and at the sink.

 3)       With two kids in the house and sometimes a husband that has been gone several weeks at a time accumulating dirty laundry in abundance for yours truly, I do laundry every single day without fail.  Into the washer, into the drier, then folding, and putting away.

4)      I let the dogs out and back in.   Who let the dogs out?  If my husband is home, we take turns.  He is obsessive about it.   I have 4 and believe me, it is a necessity.  Our oldest dog Puppy Love needs to go out every single time I sit down.  Then he looks at me in a pleading way and bounces up and down doing the doggie pee-pee dance.  Puppy Love is the potty barometer in our house.  If he goes out, they all go out.  I usually listen when he insists because one time I was sitting on the floor watching television and didn’t jump when he thought I should and that dog raised his leg and pissed on my back!

5)       I read every single day.  Whether it is other blogs or books, I am reading and loving every minute of it.

6)      I do something creative every day.  I write, I take pictures, I knit, I cook, and sometimes I crochet.  When I am in the mood, I draw or paint although those things don’t happen often anymore.

7)      I cook every single day.  Even if I get a much appreciated break and get treated out for a meal, I still prepare the other meals.  Now that my daughter is older she is my partner in crime and helps a great deal.

What about you?  What do you do every single day?

Crocheting: My Not So Secret Passion!

Crocheting has become a passion that I have carried with me all the days of my life. I love yarn, and the fact that a simple ball of the stuff can create something extraordinary with a little effort.

Warm weather draws a person outside…but cool weather finds me wanting to crochet!! Because of this urge, I made a trip to the store as soon as the winds blew colder and picked out some vibrant colors to use to construct an afghan. I was drawn to the purples and lavenders!! I rushed home and dove into my collection of pattern books searching for an afghan that would prove challenging enough to hold my interest and in the end be beautiful to behold. I wanted to try a pattern I had never done before and went with a striped pattern that featured Catherine wheels throughout. I can honestly say there is nothing I love better than crocheting while I watch television or a good movie!! When I first met my husband he was floored that I could crochet, as he had never met anyone under 80 that knew how. He must have lived a sheltered life because I taught myself to crochet when I was about 10.

This last summer I taught my daughter how to crochet and she proudly won a blue ribbon at the local 4H fair for her creation. It didn’t take long for the crochet bug to bite her!! Before I had barely finished my first row she was begging for me to go buy her a ball of yarn so she could crochet too. Like me, she loves the variegated patterns and chose one peppered with white, purple, and pale blue. I set her to work making a Granny Square. I suggested she continue until she used up the yarn, and then get another ball of a different pattern or color to make a new square. Eventually, she could crochet her squares together and have a nice sized blanket for her bed. A bonus is that she could eventually enter her afghan into the fair if she wanted.

It has become a tradition in my family to crochet. My mom did it, then I taught myself, and then I taught my daughter. A relaxing and rewarding hobby, when all is said and done you have a heirloom that will be treasured always. It has become the not so secret passion that I will carry with me all the days of my life. Until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

What I Love Best!- BFF 126

The girls over at Blogging for Fun have challenged me to write about what I love.  Since I make a pretty constant practice of proclaiming my undying love for my husband and kids, I thought I would focus on some other stuff I love instead.

I love music!  I love anything with a beat, and anything with a message that stirs my heart.  When I was growing up I got into my head that I wanted to learn to play the piano, so I taught myself how to read music to play…well.  I used to love and sit and play every single song in a songbook. The harder the piece the better.   I also love anything with a beat that rocks or has a message that rocks my soul.  I love to sing along at the top of my lungs while bopping to the beat.  I also discovered a new passion playing the drums on the game Rock Band for Wii.

I love to crochet!!  The harder the stitches, the more challenge, the more fun it is! That was something else I made up my mind I wanted to learn how to do. My mom bought me a book when I was young and I sat down and taught myself.  There is nothing better than working on a project while watching a movie on a cold winter evening.

I love movies!!! I love to laugh, so I love comedies.  The funnier, the better!! I have a vast collection of movies that continue to grow.  If I love it, or it touches me, I have got to have it!!!

I love to read.  My favorite series by far is the Harry Potter books by J. K. Rowling.
I love the whole magical world of Hogwarts.  I love the movies!  I love the movie “Gone With the Wind”, the book of the same title, and the sequel.  I love anything written by Danielle Steel, Debbie Macomber, and Nora Roberts.  I have a whole slew of favorite authors, but those are the top ones that come to mind.

I am a big kid, and I love games.  What began as a favorite past time with my mom and dad continues to this day with my own kids.  I love to play cards, Lego games, and board games.

I love to cook!  I love to make a recipe my own!!  I have a collection of favorite recipes that I have perfected .  The only downside of this love, is that I hate doing dishes.  Got to take the good with the bad with that one.

I love to write.  I love to work on my website from the posts to the design to the music that brings it to life.   I love the whole creative process.

Although I love my dogs,  I have loved cats since birth.  I am fascinated with their big long bushy tails and love to entice them into singing a few bars for me.   I love their “make me like you!” attitude which is so much like my own.

I am one of those nut jobs that love winter and the beauty of snow.  I would rather freeze my a$$ off than roast to death.  I love Christmas and the magic of a Christmas snow.

Last but certainly not least, I love to laugh!  Just like the old dude in Mary Poppins, I would be dancing on the ceiling if it were possible literally laughing my a$$ off at the tiniest things until tears are streaming down my face and I am literally choking on myself.  I love being silly, and it seems I get sillier with age.  Mooning is definitely not out of the question.  I love to proclaim that I am a few sandwiches short of a picnic or loony as a tune, because that is exactly what I am and proud of it.  I tend to live life having more fun than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest just because life is to short not to.  Until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a truckers wife.
