Never Ending Winter

It seemed winter would never come.  November became December, and still snow evaded.  If only snow had floated leisurely from the sky, if only the temperatures had plummeted, then perhaps I could have been a little more inclined to get into the spirit of Christmas.   A white Christmas wasn’t to be and soon the New Year dawned.

Once the holidays were a memory, the snow arrived, the wind chill factor became a daily concern, and barely into the new semester, snow days were inevitable and midwinter break was officially lost.  And so winter begins; now, I am longing for spring.

Hakuna Matata for the Holidays

It’s December, but where’s the snow??  I am ready for it to start looking a lot like Christmas around here.  The tree is trimmed, my Santa collection is in place and at attention, but where is the glorious white stuff?  It has been cold enough for it, but no cigar.  Today the temps are in the mid 40’s and threatening to peak in the 50’s.  It is a potentially lovely day perhaps, but not for December.  There should be snow, and lots of it!!  Snow Miser, get out of the shitter and get to work!!  Heat Miser has taken over your territory!!  How will we ever build Frosty??

Oh well, you can’t have everything in life.  Another day has dawned and a new month has begun and crazy a$$ me, I have signed up for another month of NaBloPoMo.  It is almost laughable considering the last couple of months I have went along for the ride only to fall short and not write every single day.  Bleeding hearts unite; did the world come to an end because I didn’t?  Well, hell no.   It didn’t but I felt guilty for my lapse just the same.

So here I am, pondering just what the hell to write about.  I am letting my brains scramble and ramble along and allowing my fingers to spew forth whatever bitchery and tom foolery it will on this first Saturday of December.  Weekends are not for structure after all.  They are for sleeping in, being lazy, and hiding in a corner with a good book.  They are for mad dashes to the grocery store because lo and behold the flipping cupboard is almost bare again.  G0d the natives are pigs around here!  Wait that would include me too, wouldn’t it?  Well, it is the truth after all.  It is time to do all the laundry because there is nothing worse than waking up to face the day and not having one stitch of clean clothes to put on.

It’s the weekend and there are no worries.  The bills are paid, at least the ones I plan on paying.  It is December.  If you haven’t decked your halls and hung your balls, it is time to get that party started.  It is time.  Christmas is just around the corner.  My husband was home 6 days over the Thanksgiving holidays and we got our balls together then and decked the halls.  We got our Christmas shopping basically done and all our jingly bells in order.  All that is left now is the odds, ends, and the wrapping.  Spreading holiday cheer sending out Christmas cards, indulging in Christmas sweets (shhhhh!!), thinking about the wonder of the savior’s birth, cranking the Christmas tunes to full blast, and having a merry little Christmas all month long is what December is all about.  Guess what?  I have fulfilled my duty.  I have written one merry a$$ blog and now I will leave you singing Hakuna Matata for the rest of the day until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

The Perfect Weather

I love all the seasons! Any day with the sun shining is a perfect day in my book. It would be a day that isn’t to hot or to cold but just right with a pleasant temperature between 70-80 degrees.  The skies would be brilliantly blue filled with white fluffy clouds.  A slight breeze perfumed with the smell of flowers and freshly mowed grass would fill the air.

On such a lovely day, no matter whether spring, summer, or fall, I would head outdoors to play track ball with my kids, take a walk, or lose myself in a good book while my kids played on the swing set or ran about playing one of their many games.  I would plan a picnic or a day to explore a park or a zoo.

If it was summer and a tad warmer, I might rush to the beach to laze away the day watching the tide roll in and out as my kids built sand castles and buried their toes in the sand.  More likely I would take a swim in the backyard pool, and then relax in a lawn chair, catching rays, watching my kids play as I bury myself within the pages of a great book.

If it was fall I would venture outdoors armed with my handy dandy leaf blower and attack the mountains of leaves drifting down.  Then I would enjoy watching them burn as the sun set and turned into a beautiful night with the moon watching over me and stars twinkling from the sky.

In the winter I would delight in the cotton ball sized snow falling from the sky and how the world was magically transformed into a world blanketed in white.  Then I would rush outside and attempt to catch a few snowflakes on my tongue, make snow angels, and build the best snowman ever with my kids.  As long as the sun peeked out eventually to say hello, I would be happy.

If my husband was home, the perfect weather would demand golf cart rides around the neighborhood and succulent perfectly grilled meat filling the air with the most mouth watering smells.  If the weather is bright and sunny there were would be yard work, gardening, and memories being made filled with laughter and smiles.  I will be walking on sunshine  until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

My Favorite Things- BFF 147

When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I am feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad!! Sing along if you know it!! I can’t imagine too many people around who don’t recognize this song, or the classic movie “The Sound of Music” from which it comes.
What makes me happy?? What are my favorite things?? I had to really think about this so I could compile a good list. So here it goes in no particular order…

1. I love cats! Petting a soft contented feline who is sashaying around my hand vibrating with happiness as I caress it would have to rank right up there as one of my favorite things. I love their big bushy tails and have often wondered how they purr! When I was little I used to wish our cats would purr for me. They rarely did. Perhaps it was my tendency to chase them, tackle them like a linebacker, and squash them that put them off. Happily my three cats today: Pansy, Snuggle Puss, and Rosie have the good sense to purr every time I look at them, let alone pet them.

2. I love my dogs because they love me. My favorite thing about my dogs Jolly, Puppy Love, and Tia is that wherever I am they are close by. When I go to sleep at night they snuggle up at my side keeping me toasty warm. The only time they leave my side is when my husband comes home. Then they fight to all snuggle up to him.

3. I love waking up in the morning to discover the world covered with a fresh blanket of the white stuff. Before it has been touched by footprints and the cars have turned it into blackened slush, I love how the snow turns the world into a wintry world of white. It is so magical!

4. I love sitting in the dark and gazing at my lighted Christmas tree in the silence.

5. I love eating cotton candy!! Cotton candy is definitely one of my favorite things!

6. I love watching movies!! Movies that thrill, make me laugh, make me cry, and make me smile!! I am not too thrilled with the kind that scare the be Je$u$ out of me though. I tend to avoid the ones that would give me nightmares. I love feel good movies, movies with amazing effects, or movies that excite me.

7. I love zooming around the neighborhood with my husband and kids on the golf cart!

8. I love to play games with my kids! I love card games, board games, and LEGO games, so count me in!!

9. I love the beauty of the sea and watching the tide lap in and out on the sand.

10. Last but certainly not least, I love to laugh!! It sure as hell beats crying. Laughing is one of my favorite things.

I am sure I have more favorite things and the list could go on forever to infinity and beyond. Still here is a list, and that is all that is required, just a few of my favorite things! Just a note, loving G0d is a given like breathing so I didn’t include it on the “list”. That is all I have until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.
