Cutlery
clinked amid subdued tears, sniffs. Mr. Whiskers disappeared, vanished.
Then bang! Scratch, a growl. Icy terror gripped my heart.
Slowly I investigated, opening the drawer,
peering apprehensively at the exposed heat duct below. A raccoon? A skunk? Then “Meow!” The cat!

OOH! Kathy, I liked the trepidation at opening the drawer! Lovely imagery!

ReplyDeletePat, they surely do! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteHow timely that you posted this story. One of my friends is in the process of moving and thought her cat darted outside when the movers left the door open last night. She was bereft, as you can well imagine. But great news.....she was hiding in the crawl space in the basement!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJoJo, thank God she found the cat! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteCats have such a knack for hiding, don't they? Mine used to leap from the washing machine up to some shelves, then disappear into the tiled ceiling. Loved this reflection here, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteMartha, so very true! Glad you figured out where your cat actually goes. That has to ease a lot of worry to know her hiding place! Thank you so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteA skunk AND a raccoon! Your poor cat!
ReplyDeleteTMW, oh the evils that can cross a poor cat's path! Thanks for stopping in and for your sweet comments! ♥

DeleteCats! They get into everything - but I love them (we have three in our house, and each get into varying degrees of mischief :) )
ReplyDeletejannatwrites, I always loved cats too but then my husband talked me into getting dogs...and mysteriously the cats vanished from my life. My husband hates cats...so he got his way. Thanks for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteLoved the visualization and the crisp usage of sounds at the right times :). Don't know much about cats, but that sounded like a nice discovery after the initial worry!

DeleteThere's nothing like all your family including the 'cat' being at home where they're "supposed to be" but not in the heat duct! ;) That must have been such a relief! Whew! ;) <3
ReplyDeleteelly, it really was AFTER we got over the initial terror of wondering what might be in there. LOL Thanks for stopping by and for your sweet comments. ♥
DeleteLOL!! that was awesome! I was like - "whew! just a cat!" at the end of it!
ReplyDeletehow do you do it in 42 words so perfectly each time?!
pixie, I actually drew this from an actual event as inspiration. I was so relieved to find that crazy cat! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
