After Haiku

a spark ignited

flames fanned, blazing inferno

charred devastation

  1. I remember waking up to the terrible sight of a fire down our road when I was a child, Kathy. Thankfully, it was a shop and no one was injured although the place was gutted! Your haiku captures this one so well.

  5. It only takes a spark to get the fire going after all.

    Very well put.

  7. My biggest fear ever. When I was a kid, there were 3 major fires in my hometown inside of a year. A restaurant near my house burned down and we'd just been there a few months before to see a nightclub act called The Treniers. Then a very old bar/restaurant/inn burned down in Sandwich, The Daniel Webster Inn, and my parents took me down to see the smouldering remains the next day. But the absolute worst was a house fire on my road when I was 7, that killed the mom and 4 kids.....2 of whom were my friends. My friend Robin in my grade escaped and so did my other friend & her stepsister, Cathy, but having the bus go by that burned out house for years was horrifying till they finally tore it down. Those were the days when parents and school admin felt that kids would just eventually forget about it if no one talked about it, but those fires affected me deeply for years. Any time we would come home from vacations, I would have a panic attack that our house would be burned down when we got home.
