Ever since I was a little girl I have been fascinated with outer space, stars, moons, planets, extraterrestrials, and other galaxies. The idea that there may be life out there is plausible in my mind. It is completely doable. Why not? For one I can’t imagine this gorgeous universe out there and the inhabitants of planet Earth being the only beings in it. That seems a stretch to me.
I loved exploring books about aliens and their worlds when I was a kid, looking at the awe inspiring photos of what is in our own galactic neighborhood, and even love the movies that explore other worlds and the possibility of life out there. My mind is certainly open to the possibility. Even though I personally will never venture outside the atmosphere of Earth doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist in my book. I don’t have to see it to believe it is so. Perhaps that is why I find it so entertaining and utterly fascinating.
Hollywood has certainly reaped the rewards from that shred of belief and fascination with their awe inspiring creations of “Star Wars”, “E.T.”, and most recently “Avatar” and “Transformers”. Even Disney got into the action with “Chicken Little” and “Wall E”. All of these movies were successful for their mind boggling effects and the way they pushed the barriers by presenting the possibility. The mere idea of outer space, aliens, and extraterrestrials has opened all sorts of amazing possibilities for creativity with the sky virtually having no limit.
President John Kennedy was instrumental in pushing for space exploration and research into the final frontier. A mere 6 years following his death his dreams were realized when Apollo 11 landed the first manned space craft on the moon. It is a pity he didn’t live to see it. Scientists will continue to probe for answers and all that glitters in Hollywood will continue to whet our appetites for extraterrestrials with movies filled amazing effects until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.
Our younger son has a slew of youtube UFO videos. He promises he has a sighting at least twice a week. I'm not a disveliever at all, but his videos don't sway me. lol.
ReplyDeleteAmy, I don't think his videos would sway me either, but...it could be very possible. It is kind of one of those mysteries that is really fun to think about!! Thank you for stopping by to read and comment!
DeleteI'm with you -- yes, seems a "stretch" and franky egotistical of us to think we're the only viable planet; maybe in THIS universe, but who is to say there isn't some universe BEYOND this one?
ReplyDeleteSandra, Exactly!! It does seem to be a stretch and egotistical that we are it. Thank you for stopping in to read and add your views!!
DeleteThe odds are that there are other forms of life out there. Statistically speaking, I'm not sure how their couldn't be. The question I've always had was whether or not that life form has ever made it to earth? Is it intelligent life form with advanced thinking or are there a bunch of trees and fungi on another planet?
ReplyDeleteAnd if it was intelligent, would we recognize it as a life form if it made it to earth? Just because we've defined "life" by certain scientific criteria doesn't mean that we understand all there is to know about science. What if the invading aliens were a horrible virus that killed off our people-- something unseen and without beedy little green eyes? I think I'm sounding like that Michael Crichton book. LOLOL.
Okay I'll stop for now, but just so you know, I could go on and on!! HA HA!! Great E post!!
Cheers, Jenn
Jenn, that would be kind of scary!! I think there was a horror suspense thriller like that once wasn't there? Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments. You certainly left some food for thought!!
DeleteI agree that some planet, spinning round some sun somewhere, must be able to sustain life - but not sure I like Jenn's idea that those 'aliens' could actually be viruses! I prefer the idea of little green men with big eyes!
ReplyDeletePaula, I am with you! I like the idea of cute little green guys or creatures like ET running about waving. Viruses that kill people, or leave some nasty fungus just isn't even cool. That is scary. That would open up the possibility that the swine flu could be aliens from another planet!! Yikes! Thanks for stopping in to read and for your comments!!
Deletei will admit this is not an area of intrigue for me. I just don't care. lol If they are out there and get here, then they're here, if not, then maybe we'll go there. But I know people who are obsessed by all of the unknown of space. It's good that some are, just not me.
ReplyDelete♥
Jo, LOL I am certainly far from obsessed with things like this but do find them intriguing. Not only that I listened to Katy Perry's song and was inspired. Everything else came from that! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!!
DeleteLike you, I can't imagine that there isn't life beyond Earth. I kind of hope that if there are beings capable of communicating with us, they decide to believe that there's a possibility that life might exist here and they come on over to check it out.
ReplyDeleteWord Nerd, as long as they were peaceful it would be really cool. :D Thank you for stopping in to read and for your comments!!
DeleteI'm right there with you with your thinking. I also think, if I were God, I wouldn't trust survival of creation on humans. There's got to be some other intelligent life form out there.

Joyce, I have to agree with you. Humans are open to imperfections. There has to be other intelligent civilizations on other spectacular planets. Very interesting to contemplate. Thank you for stopping in to read and for your comments!
DeleteI like to believe there's more life than us in the Universe - AND that the other life is intelligent, AND that it's friendly. Proof - I ain't got no stinking proof. But I *can't* be proven wrong, and who knows, might just be proven right.
ReplyDeleteBeverly, that is the thing...there is no more proof to life forms in other galaxies anymore than there is proof what happens when we die. There is a lot of speculation, but no proof. You just never know which is what I find the most fascinating of all. Thank you for stopping in to read and for your comments!
DeleteNice take on the letter "E" Kathy! I loved the movie, E.T. I don't think I had ever watched an alien movie until then. It had a good message. I too, have no desire to leave this earth. I am very comfortable with my feet planted firmly on the ground, thank you! (I'm a white knuckle flier to boot! lol)
ReplyDeleteBeachlover, I am with you. I am meant to be on the ground. I have never flown but am sure if I did I would spend the entire time with white knuckles, praying, and with my head buried in the barf bag. LOL I loved ET and own it on video. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!!
DeleteThe whole discussion on ET always fascinates me...great post.
