Telephone

NaBloPoMo asks:
When you are speaking with someone do you prefer to look them in the eye or talk to them over the phone?

If I had to choose whether I would rather talk to someone on the phone or look them straight in the eye, I would pick the phone each and every time.  I have been shy my whole life.  Afraid of saying the wrong thing or having anyone scrutinize me a little too closely, I have found the real me comes front and center when talking to people on the phone or online.   I hate when people stare at me.  It drives me batty and makes me wonder whether my fly is open or my breasts are hanging out.  Do I have a horn in the center of my head?  Take a picture, it will last longer.  Just please don’t stare at me!!  It freaks me out!!

With the protective barrier of the telephone or the computer, I am no longer self conscious about my appearance because whoever is talking to me on the phone or internet can‘t see me.  There is also the added extra bonus of hanging up and logging off if you want too.  If you are speaking eye to eye it is a little harder to run away!

Fortunately as I have aged I have become more outgoing and gained a little more confidence.  I am more apt to speak up and tell people just how it is with few qualms giggling more easily to hide my nervousness until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

  1. I do not like talking on the phone. I do it if there is no better way, but I prefer texting or face to facing.
    Phones, irritate me.

    1. Jo, I really don't mind talking on the phone. Hardly anyone ever calls me. When they do, I usually talk their ear off and end up giggling myself silly. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments. ♥

  2. :-) I barely talk on the phone just because. I am more a personable person so face to face is my thing. But, I do get what you are saying. Some guys when they are talking to you, their eyes are everywhere :-) Made me wanted to say "Hello --I am talking to you!"

  3. This made me smile. We are opposites. I work a switchboard for a living, so I am on a phone all day long. I go home and off the phone goes. I am notorious in my family for having my cell off. I call people back when I feel like it unless it is an emergency. I am also known by my two sisters as the telephone person, and when anyone has a problem that they need someone to make a "call" to complain, or speak to a stranger on the phone, I do it for them. They are teachers, and they are the in your face type of people. So funny..Great prompt! Fun learning about my fellow bloggers.

    1. Winnie, I can actually understand why you are the way you are. You are on the phone all the time, so the last thing you want to do is be on the phone when you are not working. My phone and internet is my link to other living, breathing beings. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments! ♥

  4. Funny,
I love talking to people one on one and making eye contact, I also love talking on the phone, talking, talking. It's true though being stared at can be unsettling. I appreciate your shyness.

    1. Angie, I am alone more than I am not so when the phone and internet give me an out and a way to communicate. I have always been self conscious. I have kind of got over that a little since I have gotten older, but when I was growing up you were lucky to get past HI with me. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!! ♥

  5. I HATE talking on the phone which is weird b/c in high school I tied it up for hours and hours. I'd rather text or message first, then I guess phone, then in person, b/c I'm self conscious too.

  6. I love talking to people face to face - or at least I used to...It's been changing for a few years now - I prefer the internet - but I'm not happy with that...trying to go out more and meet more people.

    1. Danneromero, if I had to really choose between the two evils I probably would retreat into myself and read a good book instead. LOL Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments! ♥
