F is for Fire

Woken abruptly from a vivid nightmare, she discovered her bedroom filled with smoke.  Realization struck followed rapidly by terror.

She raced for the door. Heat radiated from it. Terrified she backed away, struggling to breathe. She raced for the window, opened it quickly, and paused for only a moment before jumping into the abyss below.

  31. I admit I had to blow by this story once I saw what it was about. I have a massive fear of fire, ever since there were 3 in my hometown when I was a kid, all within a year of each other. One of them was on the road I lived on and 4 children, ages 11-3, were killed...and they were my friends. The ones that survived never returned to our school. I was in 2nd grade.
