My Heart Goes On

Pulsating within me, throughout life pieces are given. Sealed with a kiss, I promised forever to my husband. Unconditional pieces given at first glimpse to my daughter, then to my son. Each piece pulsating deep within them, living again through their memories.

Weekend!

What is it about weekends that are the absolute best part of the week?  For me and the kids the promise of no work and no school makes Friday night a time for celebration.  It is a much anticipated couple days off.  It is a couple days to do whatever floats our boat.  It is a promise to stay up late and sleep in.  It promises time to have fun.  Most weekends are just another day at the office for my husband.

This weekend my husband is on the road. What’s worse is he is not feeling his best.  I worry.  I can’t help myself.  I want him here with me so I can take care of him.  If he were home and needed to be seen by the doctor, he could.  Out there the only hope for any kind of medical help is the nearest emergency room.  Even with insurance that can get expensive.

My weekends always involve a little bill paying, a little grocery getting, and if I am lucky—which I usually am, a lot of game playing.  I love games.  While my kids love playing electronic games, I prefer classic games like Monopoly and Skip Bo.  I love to play cards and have a vast collection of card games.  I love Game Wright games and have quite a collection of them. They are imaginative, whimsical, and make you think.  In that respect, they are great for kids.  I am a big kid at heart so they are especially good for me.  I love “Sleeping Queens” where the object is to wake up all the Sleeping Queens.  It is a whimsical game of Kings, Queens, sleeping potions, magic wands, knights, and dragons.  I love to submerge myself into the land of Gubs too.  It is a fun game of wit and luck where you do your best to grow your colony despite the threats or hazards.  Only the strong survive.  Another game that I am simply addicted to is Frog Juice where you cast spells, brew concoctions, and melt witches!  As you can see, I get into playing games that stoke my imagination, allow me to strategize, and strengthen my analytical skills.  I love games that fine tune my kids brains and promote their learning.

Weekends are great for movie marathons, trips to the mall to wander, reading in bed, drawing zentangles, knitting, and if we are lucky a chance to eat out.  As much as I love to cook, I still love to take a night off from doing the dishes!  Weekends are when the barriers come down.  You can enjoy your family, have fun, take care of business, and relax.  If my husband is coming home, it is always for the weekend!   It is no wonder so many people celebrate the coming of Friday and happily count the days to the next one!

7 Things I Can't Live Without

I am taking part in “The Write Tribe Festival of Words 1st to 7th September 2013".

1.      I would be lost in this life without my husband and children.  They are the reason I get up in the morning and persevere.   I love them with every fiber of my being.

2.      When my husband is on the road I count on my four dogs for warmth and companionship, and they don’t disappoint.  I always sleep on my side.  My rat terrier, Puppy Love, always snuggles up against my back.  My Boston terrier, Jolly, is my teddy bear and the two small dogs (the Chihuahua Zoe, and the Min Pin Tia) snuggle around my feet.  We all dive deep under the covers and stay warm.  I would miss my dogs.  They are a part of my family with their unique personalities.  There isn’t a one of them I could live without.

3.      I don’t think I would be me if I didn’t have a book nearby to read.  I have loved books since I was very small.

4.     My computer is my link to the outside world and I would be a fish out of water without it for long.  With it I explore my creativity with my writing, photography, and the bit of web design I have dabbled in.  I play computer games and listen to music.  Last but not least I connect with friends from all over the world, some which have become a very important, vital part of my existence.

5.     A very important link to my husband is my cell phone.  I am not sure how I ever lived without a cell phone in the past.  These days my cell phone is my primary phone.  Why pay for a house phone and a cell phone?  So I don’t.  My cell phone goes everywhere I go.  I love my stopwatch/timer app that keeps track of how many minutes I am pedaling on my exercise bike and when to turn the meat on the grill.  I check the weather, my bank account, and who died from my phone.  It is another link to the outside world that I use constantly.

6.     I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have my tunes.  They are safely stored on my cell phone and whenever I hear a song I instantly love I download it to my phone.  I write better to music.  I work better when listening to music.  Music is the heartbeat of my existence and an integral part of my soul.  It makes me happy when I am sad and makes life one big party.

7.     I can’t live without food.  I admit it, I love to cook and I absolutely suck at dieting.   I love to create in the kitchen and I am good at it.  I love to try new recipes and tackle new culinary challenges.  We all have to eat right?  While I hate the drudgery of the cleanup, I love the creation of great food, the satisfied expressions on my family’s faces, and the accomplishment I feel when my French baguettes come out of the oven perfect.  I love trying new things and the thrill when I get it right.

Siblings

I remember when I first married my husband my grandma telling me I couldn’t just have one baby.  I needed to have at least two.  She was convinced that a child would be better off with a brother or sister.  After my Dad died, I yearned for a son that I could name after him.  Before a year passed I was pregnant and I got my little boy who I named after my Dad.

I will never forget when I found out I was pregnant.  My daughter told me she had prayed for a brother and couldn’t wait to go pick him up.  She actually asked me if we could go get the baby the next day.  Unfortunately, it takes a little longer than a day for a pregnancy.

I have to admit I had another reason for wanting a brother for my daughter.  I had a sister who I never got along with.  Our relationship had been chaotic and a nightmare from hell from the start.  I never see her and we don’t speak.  It is like not having a sister at all.  In the long run, it is better this way.  The fighting, hatred, and drama just isn’t worth getting together for.  Life is too short.  It doesn’t mean that I don’t think about her sometimes.  I wish her well.  I do.  It is just that it is pointless to have any kind of relationship with her.  It is too much water under the bridge as they say.

Because of the hellacious relationship my sister and I have shared,   I feel even more blessed and relieved that my kids get along and probably always will.  My family is important to me, although I know a lost cause when I see it.  I remember telling my dad before he died that once he was gone there would be no reason why I would have to put up with her crap anymore.  He was saddened by my statement but he understood better than anyone could.  Like a prophecy my words that day became reality.  One truth remains…you don’t get to choose who you are related to.  You can only do the best you can and live your life.

Secrets of My Success

This week's host of the Writer's Post Blog Hop is Angela Tjong of "Journey of Life".

I am very blessed to have several people behind my success.  While my husband has been a constant source of support in all the years I have known him, it has always been my daughter who has been a constant source of encouragement and joy in my life.  I can always count on her to take care of me when I am sick and be my cheerleader when I need an extra push.

My son, with his radiant smile, brilliant blue eyes, and snuggly hugs, reminds me each day that he thinks I hung the moon.  His love makes all the difference in the world.  He believes I can do anything and do it well.

Last but not least is the man who is the love of my life and has become my rock over the years I have known him.  He has faith in me to succeed and the ability to do things I would never even imagine.   From surviving a rollercoaster to handling a catastrophe at the house without him, he has an underlying faith in me to succeed that insures the fact not only that I can but that I will.

With these three people’s unconditional love, unswerving confidence in my abilities, and their undying support, how could I possibly go wrong?   Even when I doubt myself, they are there to push me forward and reach for success with both hands.  I believe being successful in life is being happy in all aspects and enjoying life to the fullest.  Without these vital people, I would be lost.  They give me strength.  They give me the confidence to persevere.   They make my life worth living.  Everyone needs people like that in their lives.  Not only that, everyone needs to appreciate who makes their lives worth living.  I thank G0d everyday of my life for them and count them as the richest blessings I possess.

What I Value Most

Welcome to another day of BlogFest.  Today’s host is Emily Rose Thrasher of Mommy of an Angel.

The prompt for today asks
“What do I value?”

I thought about this long and hard all day and I kept coming back to the same answer.  First and foremost I value my husband and kids.

Without them life wouldn’t be worth drawing another breath.  I value my memories and my pictures.  They are all I have left of my parents.  I value truth and honesty.  I value loyalty.  I value kindness and being polite.  I value God’s path for me and trust in Him to guide me.  I value my blog.  Yes I do.  I must, or I wouldn’t be as dedicated to maintaining it.   I value my dear dogs and cat.  At the end of the day, nothing else would really matter if I did not have my husband and kids.  At this point I have come full circle in my thinking and am back to start until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

Dedication

Welcome to the Day 16 of BlogFest 2012!!  Today's host is Suzy at Someday Somewhere.

I have been dedicated to my husband and our marriage for 15 years and intend to remain dedicated as long as I draw breath.   I have been dedicated to both of my children since they were born.  My little family means the world to me.

Since that fateful day in 2009 when I decided to maintain a blog, I have been dedicated.  I have had my ups and downs, my share of writer’s block and those moments when there simply was not enough money to keep the internet bill paid and on at home.  I have been dedicated enough to go to the local library and use their computers to insure that I posted regularly and kept up with all the writing prompts that the groups I am affiliated with offered.  It mattered to me.  I wanted to remain connected and refused to allow a little thing like lack of money stop me from posting.

Dedication means a lot.  Some people like my father and my husband, dedicate most of their lives to their jobs out of necessity.  They stay on the road and keep those tires on their semi trucks rolling to insure that their family can eat, have things, and have a roof over their heads.  They sacrifice part of their lives to just stay afloat, pay the bills,  and survive.

People dedicate their time to learn, to help others, and to grow.  In the end one can only hope that the dedication to continue on is appreciated by others until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

Time in a Bottle- BFF 211

If I could keep time in a bottle I would have given it to my mom who was not ready to die, had so much more she wanted to do, and would have given anything to have more time.  In contrast, my dad was more than ready and willing to go because my mom was no longer here and what he desired more than anything else was more time with her.  He was never able to fill that gaping void in his heart that she left when she died.  I was the one who wanted time in a bottle to spend more time with him!

I would love to be able to have a big room filled with time in bottles.  I would use a bottle every time my husband comes home and probably end up spending a fortune.  He usually is only home on average 4 days a month.  From the time he arrives until the time he leaves time literally flies.  There never seems to be enough time together.  There are times when he probably is glad to get back on the road and away from us, and I have to admit when he comes home and has a bee up his a$$ and looking for a fight there are times I wish he would have just kept trucking right on by.  Unfortunately that is not how life works.  You have to take the good with the bad and roll with it.  Not everyone is happy every minute of every day.  Deep down, I wish he never had to go.

When I look at my kids I wish I had time in bottles so that I could enjoy their being little longer.  I hate the thought of them growing up.  It seems only yesterday they were babies and now they are both in school.  Before I know which end is up they will have grown, transformed into adults, and be off to discover the world and live their own lives as they should.

Unfortunately we can’t save time in a bottle.  Time doesn’t stop when someone we love dies. You can’t stop your kids from growing up.  One day I will be old and the sands in my own hourglass will be used up.  If someone could figure how to do it and sell it, they would make a fortune! Until then I will do my best to enjoy the time that I have until the next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.
