I expect and hope for the respect of my
husband and children. You give me
respect, you get it back. It just makes
life a lot smoother. It isn’t a
complicated concept or rocket science.
It is common sense and decency. Everyone
should be treated with dignity, respect, and kindness. Everyone in this world has something special
to contribute and so much to give.
Everyone has an equal chance to earn the respect of their family,
friends, and colleagues. It kind of
brings home the ole saying about treating others the way you would like to be
treated. If you treat someone bad, you
will get treated badly in return. It is
karma and it always comes around, always.
It will bite you in the butt
worse than anything you can imagine.
Respect is about following the rules. It is about getting along with others. It is about coloring within the lines. It is all about caring. If you don’t care, your actions will show it and you will be hard pressed to ever be on the receiving end of respect. First and foremost, you have to like and respect yourself. You must do your best in all things. If you can’t even look in the mirror and respect the person looking back at you, you will play hell convincing anyone else to respect you. It is a choice. Do you choose to demand respect from others? You should because you are worth it. While respect in almost instances is earned, it starts and ends with Y-O-U. R-E-S-P-E-C-T, I’ve told you what it means to me. What does it mean to you? Aretha couldn’t have said it better.
I totally agree that respect is a give first and then receive. Get what you give.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Not surprisingly.
Jo, so pleased you liked it. I wrote this in the 11th hour needing to write something. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments.
DeleteI demand respect from my students and get it. Adults are a little more challenging. Most will offer respect, but there is always the occasional Neanderthal.

Joyce, I can just about imagine. Most teachers do but you must to maintain order. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteAgree with you completely... treat people the way you want to be treated. Talk to people the way you want to be talked to. Respect is certainly earned and not given. :)
ReplyDeleteShilpa, I agree. Even authority figures who demand respect aren't likely to get respect unless they earn it. Others will simply resent them if they haven't earned it. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteAgree with you. Respect is as important as basic necessities of life.
ReplyDeleteKalpana Solsi, thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteRespect is to be earned through your behaviour and actions. Same way other can earn your respect through their behaviour and actions. Demanding it won't get you respect always, :) :)
ReplyDeleteShiplasharmaonline, I agree completely. You can't force someone to respect you. Thank you for stopping in and for your kind comments!
DeleteKathy, I completely agree...first give respect and then earn it.
ReplyDeleteSugandha, that seems to be the way it works from what I could see. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteYep....you hit it right on the head!
ReplyDeleteJoJo, so pleased you agree. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteA perfect emotion for all sorts of situations is respect. And in my opinion it is beyond human beings, respect for nature for animals for anything we undertake can always be a great way to lead life...
ReplyDeleteRicha
Richa, I agree completely with you. It isn't just about respect for humans, but also for everything. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteI agree Kathy. Respect is most important in any relationship.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, not many people seem to realize this.
I also wonder why so many children aren't taught respect - especially to respect their parents.. :-/
mytakeoneverything9, it is a pity they don't. I am happy that we moved to the school district we are in when my kids were young because they have been taught respect, kindness, and common decency there as well as at home. It is reinforced at school what I have teach about respect at home and thankfully they are shaping up to be pretty decent individuals. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteVery right, Kathy! Respect is about 'coloring within the lines' & what a pretty picture it makes. respect is truly the basis of all relationships...makes people feel worthy.
ReplyDeleteAnita, it sure does!! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
