She wished she knew then what she knew now. Things would have gone down a lot differently. She had never played the lottery and had never won anything in her life. That is why when she bought the lottery ticket on a whim and gave it to her daughter for safekeeping she quickly forgot about it.
When the winning numbers were revealed, Dawn realized she had won millions! Intent to have it all, she checked her ailing mother into a nursing home’s Alzheimer’s unit. Escaping to Europe where her new identity awaited, Dawn and the money disappeared without a trace.

Aah! Sad for her. But it is a fact that money doesn't change people, it just unmasks them!
ReplyDeleteShilpa, you can certainly say that again! ♥
DeleteWow, Kathy this was most unexpected. A nice one.
ReplyDeleteUsha, I am so pleased you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for stopping by to read and for your sweet comments! ♥

ReplyDeleteKalpana, it is sad. Sometimes people value money more than family. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteWow OK I guess I'm the only one who is gonna say, 'boy would that be tempting'....not the new identity thing though. But then again until you've had a bad relationship with a mother, you wouldn't know what it's like to feel the way this fictional Dawn does. I do.
ReplyDeleteJoJo, I know exactly where you are coming from! Still it is sad. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteThe poor mother! Lyssa M x

ReplyDeletePat, I don't think I would tell a soul either. I would take off for parts unknown. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteUnfortunately that happened to a friend of mine. She came home one day and her husband had disappeared with their two small children and the winnings- without a trace. That was almost 20 years ago and she never found them.
ReplyDeleteCarol, that is awful and sad!! How could he do that to her?? And never see her babies again?? That is awful. Thank you for stopping by and for your comments! ♥

DeleteWhat an awful thing for the daughter to do and yet I'm sure this kind of thing happens more than we realize. The elderly get swindled and taken advantage of even by their own children. Sad tale but well written. I would have specified that her daughter's name was Dawn in the first paragraph as I was a bit confused at first and thought the mother's name was Dawn but I figured it out. Maybe I just need more coffee!
ReplyDeleteCathy, sad but true. Thank you for stopping by to read my story and for your kind comments. I am so pleased you enjoyed my story! ♥
DeleteHow cruel is that, cheating your own mum. Difficult to believe that people like that actually exist.
ReplyDeletetulika, but they do and they are evil to their very cores. Thank you so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteNo! What a horrid daughter. Money can really turn people into such creeps, unless you are grounded in the right values. Nice one, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteShailaja, it sure can! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
