Goals?

In 2015 I haven’t really made any writing resolutions to speak of.   If anything, I have made a conscious effort to at least post every week and write something as my interest in the hobby seems to be waning a bit.

Last year I made a New Year’s resolution only because a writing prompt more or less forced me to name one.  I did, and as fate would have it, I failed miserably.  I mean with the goal of laughing more and worrying less as a resolution, what could possibly go wrong?  Well stupid me!  Life stepped in and shit happened giving me plenty to worry about and little to be happy for.  By December I had sunk into such a deep pit of depression I found it very hard to truly look forward to Christmas in any capacity which has never really happened to me before in that degree.  Therefore, I am kind of against making goals of any sort.  I live each day one day at a time and am thankful on the most part I got through each one with my sanity.    Living life as it comes seems to work for me and I believe helps to keep the stress level to a minimum.

Setting goals and not meeting them is depressing so I tend to avoid that exercise.  I try to expect less and then when I get more I am happy, and being happy is key.

Free Once Again!

She stared at the blank screen and started typing then immediately deleted the words she had written. That sounded completely stupid.  No one would want to read that!  Frustrated she tried again, knowing that hours were stretching into days and days would soon be a whole week since she last posted or wrote anything.  Time worked that way and often got away from her.  She quickly clicked over to the screen that held all those brilliant souls who had already posted their entries.  Over 20 people already with brilliant stories and perfect grammar that hadn’t been stripped of their words like she had.  Damn.  Clicking on one she was drawn into a journey into the writer’s imagination that awed her.  Back she went to the empty page in Microsoft Word.  Write something!  She started again and again until it was time to give up and go to work.

Depressed and forlorn, she wondered how long she would be in this wordless funk.  She went to work even though she really didn’t want to go.  She faced the onslaught of children descending the cafeteria with a smile, because they deserved a cheerful disposition.  How bright and happy they were!  Their mood was contagious!  For the first time in weeks they were bundled up to go outside for recess.    They had been doomed to endure indoor recess for weeks on end.  Damn the weather to hell.  What good was the snow if no one could frolic in it?  She welcomed their hugs, felt rewarded by their smiles, and felt happy when one took her hand as she led them to the nurse.

She returned to her computer at the end of the workday to discover her addled brains had been freed from their shackles.  The words flowed freely through her fingertips once again as she typed her latest story, publishing it with a sense of satisfaction and glee that knew no bounds.  Her soul rejoiced once again.

Why I Write

Thank you to Corinne at Write Tribe for the fun writing prompt!!

Ironically I haven’t done a whole lot of writing lately so this prompt couldn’t have come at a better time for me.  A few of you have wondered if I dropped off the world.  In a way I did.  My computer decided to die a slow and agonizing death and then money wise, May was a bad month in my neck of the woods.  Money was short.  It became a little more important to pay for food and the house payment than post here.

Since then I toyed with the idea of simply deleting my blog.  The question of why I write flew around my noggin like loose marbles.  I don’t write because I have any ideas that I am the next Danielle Steel waiting to be discovered.  I never had a burning desire growing up to publish something someday.  However, I love the community of friendly bloggers I discovered.  I love the interaction.  I also love the opportunity to vent and let my imagination run wild.    Let’s face it, I can be right down bat shit crazy and writing is a great vehicle to express and nurture that tendency.

So in a nutshell, I need a vehicle to express myself and writing provides that with no holds barred.  It is safe.  I can be me without people wondering why.  Correction, I can be me and not see the amused disapproving glances shot my way.  It is perfectly acceptable to go ape shit here and laugh until I pee my pants.  On second thought, I kind of do that everywhere and in every situation anyway because I am skipping through mental pause and am half past give a shit.   I just have a place to document it here.  It doesn’t matter where I go I always notice how pious everyone else is.  People walk around looking like they just sucked a lemon or have a broom stuck up their ass sideways.  I am the crazy one that smiles at people I don’t know and am not afraid to laugh in public.  So why write?  I write to express myself, to vent, to connect with the outside world, and for the hell of it.

Tidbit Thursday- Reasons to Smile!

This Thursday I found many reasons to smile and count my blessings.  The smiles began when I went to my son’s school to have lunch with him.  The smile on his face when he saw me was priceless.  The way my son runs up to greet me with a smile that could light up the room and embraces me with a warm hug warms my heart.  Sharing in the giggles over lunch with my son and his friends was priceless.

Shortly after I arrived back home, my husband came home for the weekend.  There is nothing that makes me happier in the world than to see my husband’s semi truck backing into the driveway.  Every visit is a special treat.

Even more priceless was the smiles and elation on my children’s faces when they stepped off their buses and seen that their Daddy was home.  My son was so excited he fell on his face in the snow in his rush to get into the house to see his Daddy.  It was repeat performance as my daughter slip and slid in the snow yelling “Daddy!” as she burst into the front door.  My husband’s homecomings makes all of us smile.

After all the homecomings we went out for pizza which is always a treat.  I am thankful I completed my first Web Design class successfully.  I am thankful that I started another one.  I am thankful my family is together for the weekend, and I am thankful for each and every one of you. I am thankful for Larissa and her fun Tidbit Thursday Party at "Papa is a Preacher"!   That pretty much sums up my day full of tidbits.  Bless each and every one of you until next time I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

The Little Things that Make Me Smile

Thank you to Corinne of Everyday Gyann for hosting the Writer's Post Blog Hop and for her fun prompt!

1Having my husband home and my little family all together.

2.  Seeing my son’s school bus come to a stop in front of our house, open its doors, and see my son burst through and run for the house hell bent for election with a smile that rivals the sun especially for me as he barrels inside and envelopes me in a big bear hug.

3.  My kid’s declarations of love.

4. Watching my kids dance.

5.  Dancing with my kids before that moment when I collapse all sweaty and out of breath.

6.  The way the scenery reflects into water.

7.  Sitting on the couch and immediately being surrounded by all my doggies on every side snuggled against me.

8.  Whenever my cat purrs.

9.  Hearing my kids laugh!

10.  Singing along to a song I love.

11. Getting 100% on my quizzes for my Web Design course.

12.  Snow

13.  A sunny day.

15.  Giggles.

16.  My dog’s farts.

17.  Really, anyone’s farts, especially my own.  I love those.  Farts are friends and are fun as long as you don’t cream your jeans in the bargain.  That is simply AWKWARD, messy, and smelly.

18. My daughter’s laugh.

19.  My son flexing his twig and giggle berries.

20.   Having anyone but me get covered in my dog Jolly’s fart juice.

21.  Getting called to come in to work…which doesn’t happen near enough I might add.

22.  Lovely comments on my blog proving someone actually reads my words and enjoys it.

23.  Pulling off something and getting away with it!!

24.  Saying something off the wall that people don’t expect and then running away.

25.  Hiding whoopee cushions under unsuspecting souls that are pious and really need to lighten up and smile.

26. Pride in my kid’s accomplishments.

27. Pride in my own accomplishments.

28. Taking a great picture.

29.  Reading something that warms my heart.

30.  Handling a situation on my own that I would have never thought I could.

31.  Fireworks

32.  Cotton Candy

33.  Actual weight loss accomplished
Obviously I could go on and on because the world is such a big place and there are so many reasons to smile.  I love to smile at people I don’t know and have them smile back.  It makes me happy that my smile has maybe brightened their day…even for a moment.

Happiness

NaBloPoMo asks:

“Are you happier working or relaxing?”

What can I say?  On those rare opportunities when I get called in to work at a school I am so happy I could just $hit because I am making MONEY!!!  Every little bit helps!!   I like being busy.  I don’t thrive on house work, BUT, I can’t help myself from doing it.  Too much clutter makes me batty.  At some point I must clean whether I like it or not.  Yesterday I cleaned out my closet and found jeans I haven’t worn in I don’t even know when.  The best part was when I got the idea to put them on and I could not only get them over my ass but I could snap them and zip them without them sucking my will to live.  I felt like doing a happy dance.  Losing weight has its happy moments!  Not only that, I have room in them.  Life is good!

For the rest of the time when I am not writing and working on my blog, which actually isn’t like work, I have made relaxing into an art form.  I read, I write, I comment, I crochet, I watch movies, and I laze about.  I am hopelessly addicted to Spider Solitaire now that I have figured out exactly how to play it.  Ah yes, relaxing is a good thing.  Are you happier working or relaxing?  If you think about it you might as well choose to be happy.  After all life is entirely too short until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

Half Empty or Half Full?

This weeks Writer's Post Blog Hop's host is Angela at Journey of Life.  Thank you Angela for the thought provoking picture prompt.

As the days draw closer to Thanksgiving, I have begun to reflect on what I have to be thankful for and whether my proverbial glass in life is half empty or half full.  That is a good question, and Angela’s prompt demands an answer.  I have stared at the picture prompt for most of the week thinking about what my take is on this subject.

When I was younger I was a pessimist due to circumstance.  My glass was half empty and I couldn’t begin to imagine how it would ever become half full let alone come to the point of overflowing with happiness.  At that point in time it was a lot easier to imagine my cup half empty if not overflowing with despair.  Those experiences in my life taught me that it was all about attitude.  I chose to let circumstance beat me.  I chose to be depressed.  I chose to care what everyone else thought.  I was so deeply mired in my own unhappiness I was forced to take antidepressants to cope with everything that was going on.

At some point in life my attitude changed.  My cup began to look half full and at some points overflowed with happiness.  My attitude changed.  I forgave myself for mistakes and the ultimate sin of not being perfect.  I forgave myself for failing.  I decided I was going to live each day one day at a time.  I was going to adopt the attitude my mother had…if not today, maybe tomorrow I can.

Life became funny.  I began to laugh more.  I got a little more silly instead of broomstick up my a$$ serious, and you know what?  Life got a whole lot easier to endure.  At times, life is downright enjoyable.  I learned to quit worrying about what I didn’t have and began celebrating what I do.  Every week I amuse the hell out of the cashiers at my local grocery store.  Me, the person who grew up practically allergic to math, can be seen working through the store subtracting each item’s price from how much money I have until I have absolutely everything I need plus a bit more.  When I approach the check out, I watch patiently as each item is ringed up.  When the total is announced I actually celebrate the fact when I have money left to my name even if it is only a dollar.  Some folks would moan about the fact that they only had a couple dollars left to their name.  Not me, I giggle and celebrate!  YAY!  I have a whole dollar left!!!

I have changed with age.  Where I used to worry myself sick all the time about things which were out of my control, now I let it go and let G0d worry about it.  I choose to enjoy life.  I choose to live my life with my cup overflowing or half full.   It is your choice how your life is going to go.  Why not enjoy it and let go of things you can’t do anything about?  If you are doing your best that is all you can do.  If you are doing that, you are a success.  You are a survivor, and in the grand scheme of things life is what you make it.   I choose to be optimistic and count my blessings.  I choose to have my cup overflowing or at the least half full until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

A Reason to Smile: BFF 220

I have been bluer than a comfortable pair of blue jeans lately.  Today after getting over another migraine I decided I needed a reason to smile.  My first stop was You Tube.  Music really soothes the soul and LMFAO’s video “I’m Sexy and I Know it!” cracks me up.  Seriously, can you honestly watch that video, feel the beat, and see all those geeky guys wiggle, wiggle, wiggling their twig and giggle berries without laughing?  I certainly can’t.  It is also a song I can’t resist dancing to.   I crank the volume and the kids and I get our jam on.  My son loves to “wiggle”.  G0d help me, he has the makings of a male stripper.  When I am with my kids, I don’t even need an Alabama Slammer to get up and shake my groove thing when that song comes on.

I smile when my kids shower me with their love.  Seriously is there anything better than having your kid come up to you out of the clear blue sky, smile their precious smile, and say “I love you Mommy!!”  No, I didn’t think so either.  It gets me every time!!  Their hugs, kisses, and drawings are some of the best things life has to offer.  Knowing my husband is coming home makes me smile.  The cat purring contentedly and my dogs snuggling around me no matter where I am makes me happy.

Tonight I took my kids to my son’s elementary school for the “Back to School Ice Cream Social”.  You can go tour the school, meet your kid’s teacher, and top if off with free ice cream.   I had to be the odd ball.  Both the kids had their ice cream smothered with chocolate.  Me? I had to have my ice cream smothered with strawberries!!  I am smiling just thinking about it.

Smiles lead to laughter and since everyone in my house honed their funny bone on Eddie Murphy’s humor, an off the wall comment like “Remember that fart you once made” leaves me laughing so hard tears are streaming down my face, snot is blowing out of my nose, and I am choking on myself.  Why are farts so funny?  They just are!!  The funniest thing is I can remember some momentous farts from the past that still leave me laughing so hard I have to make a mad dash to the toilet so I don’t pee my pants!!  There was the time my Grandma farted in front of everyone and my sister proclaimed “Ewww, who $hit?” to my parents mortification.  To my knowledge my Grandma never farted as freely ever again.   There was also the time my Dad farted on the cat.  The cat let out a yowl, jumped about three feet high, and took off like a bat out of hell to get away from the smell.  You know, remembering moments like that make me smile!!

There are a million reasons to smile, and even more reasons to laugh.  The world would be a better place if everyone would just lighten up, and smile or laugh out loud.  Who wants to be all pious and straight faced?  So smile, laugh out loud, and live a little.  It will make everyone wonder what the hell you have been up to until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.
