Depressed and forlorn, she wondered
how long she would be in this wordless funk.
She went to work even though she really didn’t want to go. She faced the onslaught of children
descending the cafeteria with a smile, because they deserved a cheerful
disposition. How bright and happy they
were! Their mood was contagious! For the first time in weeks they were bundled
up to go outside for recess. They had been doomed to endure indoor recess
for weeks on end. Damn the weather to
hell. What good was the snow if no one
could frolic in it? She welcomed their
hugs, felt rewarded by their smiles, and felt happy when one took her hand as
she led them to the nurse.
She returned to her computer at the end of the workday to discover her addled brains had been freed from their shackles. The words flowed freely through her fingertips once again as she typed her latest story, publishing it with a sense of satisfaction and glee that knew no bounds. Her soul rejoiced once again.

DeleteWriter's block many a times can take toll on us..
ReplyDeleteRicha
Richa, I hate writer's block. It always makes me so depressed and hopeless. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteA little autobiographical eh? I hate it when I get crafter's block. That's usually when I take the opportunity to organize my craft supplies because inspiration will usually strike.
ReplyDeleteJoJo, usually I retreat and read. Eventually I am inspired once again. Stepping away and taking a break surely helps. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteOh, I can so relate to this:-) Sometimes it just says stop... Beautifully written.... And then what a fantastic feeling when suddenly the words are there right?:-) Best in the world!
ReplyDeleteEli, it really does make you feel good when you have finally broken through the block. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteThat sounded so real.. and it does happen to all of us. Glad the kids set you free.
ReplyDeletetulika, I am so pleased you enjoyed it! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteHad days like that for sure...the stories are there but for some reason I can't get them out! Lol
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's a lack of will, if I'm not in the mood I can't get it down either!
Joseph, I know exactly what you mean. I struggle with this a lot. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteBrilliantly written. I can feel the pain and frustration. And the recovery.
ReplyDeleteRob-bear, I am so pleased you enjoyed it. Sometimes it is really hard to come up with something brilliant for every single challenge. At the time, this seemed obvious so I took it and ran with it. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteWhew! The kiddos freed the muse!
ReplyDeleteJo, yes this time. Stepping away sometimes helps! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteNicely described Kathy, sometimes the harder we try, the more difficult it is to finish a task..At such times it is best to take your mind off from it and then life throws a very fresh perspective at you. As in most cases, a smile really works :)
ReplyDeleteReshma, exactly!! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteThis does sound like what I go through sometimes...writer's block can be really depressing! Nice post, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteKajal, it is depressing especially when you know you have to write something and have nothing to write. A complete blank...even when you free write. Thank heavens it usually doesn't last long and the words start flowing once again. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteTribulations I often go through and it linger on depression. Love the post, Kathy:)
ReplyDeletevishalbheeroo, I am so pleased you liked my post and could relate to it. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteU know I could almost picturise those shackles breaking and the smiles the little kids bought in.. v well ritten as always Kathy!
ReplyDeleteMina, on that day I didn't even want to go to work because I hadn't written anything yet and I was pretty depressed about it. We are our worst enemies they say. But then I went to work and the kids smiles were contagious and I felt so much better. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteThat was a fab piece of writing! Somebody has said it so correctly, writing about a writer's block is better than not writing at all! :D
ReplyDeleteShilpa, I am so pleased you liked it. I personally was in a funk with my writing and my own situation fit the prompt so I ran with it. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteI could relate to the first paragraph - I've been frustrated with the blank screen and crappy words soooo many times! (I also find that the block is more pronounced if I'm up against a deadline, or if it's something that really matters - like a submission that could earn money.) Glad you were able to write your way out of the funk :)
ReplyDeletejannatwrites, me too! I think anyone who writes or creates has faced a creative funk at one point or another and each person has their own way of getting their mojo back. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments!♥
DeleteBeen there myself far too often. Usually I go and read, or listen to a favourite list of songs, or play a short game on the PC. Just something to break my mind from the ditch a writers funk can get you in. Great read. :)
ReplyDeleteChyina, I know exactly what you mean. I do some of the same things. Sometimes even leaving the house helps a lot. Music, reading, art...and then I can usually come back refreshed and inspired. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteI can so relate to this Kathy!! I think I'm going thru it right now!!
ReplyDeleteYou have expressed it beautifully right!
pixie, I hate writer's block. It makes me feel like such a complete failure and is so frustrating. When all else fails it is just best to walk away and do something else for a while. Then by the time I come back, hopefully my mojo is restored. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteOh, that writerly lament. Glad it got fixed!
ReplyDeletekymm, me too! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteI've experienced writers block a few times and feel helpless. My muse just laughs while sipping a glass of wine with her feet propped up on cushions. Lazy wretch. This is a good post Kathy.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I hate writers block and if that isn't a funk I don't know what is! LOL I thought what in the world am I going to write about with the word funk and then I chose the obvious. LOL I love that your muse drinks wine. That is funny. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments!
DeleteYou never know when it's going to strike you, do you?
ReplyDeleteTrifecta, no and it is so frustrating!! Thank you for stopping by and for your comments!
DeleteI love this, it was fun and made me smile and also kep my interest.
