Q is for Queen

Can you imagine being born knowing one day you will be queen?  Once you were old enough to contemplate such an enormous proposition, wouldn’t that be just a little cool? The queen who is currently occupying the throne wasn’t born to be Queen.  If her uncle hadn’t abdicated, she would have lived a very different life.  Granted she would have still been very privileged and had plenty of money, but she would have never had the responsibility of the whole monarchy that she ended up with.  Your life and business would never be totally your own but just THINK about the perks involved!!  The good would definitely outweigh the bad.

For a person like me that has been used to fading into the woodwork, being thrust into the limelight of a very public stage from birth would be terrifying.  I hate it when people stare at me!   On the other had, how bad could it possibly be to always be dressed in beautiful clothes, adorned with gorgeous jewels, and have everyone nodding and bobbing to your every whim?  I think I could get used to that!!  Set me up with a few castles, horses, and an array of pretty hats that no one would dare say I looked like $hit in!  No worries about bills.  What other job could a person have that would allow you to travel the world in splendor plus be cheered and handed countless gorgeous flowers when you arrive?

A big problem with being Queen would be that you couldn’t turn off your celebrity when you were tired of it.  You would be stuck with it.  I only can imagine when you are simply trying to find a bathroom to take a royal pee you wouldn’t care for the long lens of the paparazzi joining you.  At that point a queen would feel the need to tell the press to f*** off.  It simply wouldn’t be done though, and even though you were queen you wouldn’t dare.  No more mooning random strangers, or flipping off idiots that don’t know how to drive and have their heads up their a$$.  There would be too many people around ready to hold your door, open your drapes in the morning, see to your every care, and make certain you towed the line.  There would also be entirely too many people about to document the moment every time you screwed up.

Although riding about in the glass coach and giving the queen’s wave on occasion might be fun at first, eventually being under publicity’s unyielding glare and a constant microscope would get old.  I mean, when would you ever find a moment to satisfy that itch on your butt?  Honestly, I don’t think I have it in me to be that dignified for that long.  You know I would end up in a case of uncontrollable giggles before all was said and done!  The first time one of those guards in the bearskin hats at Buckingham Palace farted, I would be lost to hilarity.

I was one of those folks that were up with the chickens to see the televised live coverage of several royal weddings first hand.  It still amuses me that the only thing the commentators could say the whole time was that inside the palace the Queen is busy putting on her hat.  This commentary went on for hours and they were always talking about her hat!!  In my mind, the Queen was probably not amused at the ignorance of the commentators.  Why in G0d’s holy name would she take that long to put on a bloody hat, and wouldn’t she wait until seconds before running out the door to put it on?  Think about it!!  I have enormous respect for the Queen of England. She has done a remarkable job over her reign.  This year the Queen celebrates 60 years of service to her country on the throne with a Diamond Jubilee.  G0d Bless her, and G0d save the Queen until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

  1. terrific Q post! You spent some time on this one, I can tell. And grat frumpy pic you got of the "Queen." I for one, frankly, would much rather face into the woodwork. If I were Queen, that's what I'd want to do; find one small room in my castle and hide there. Maybe write:)))

    1. Sandra, me too. It would be hard having to be picture perfect all the time and have everyone looking at you and taking your picture. UGH!! I am afraid you and I would be more recluses like Queen Victoria was in later life, although I wouldn't wear black daily and sure wouldn't be buried in white. Weird! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!!

  2. Look how the press hounded poor Princess Di to her death! That poor girl was so ill equipped to deal w/ everything that came with being the wife to the heir of the throne. I can only hope that Kate handles being married to Wills better than Di did. Of course the big difference is that Wills loves Kate, when Charles never loved Diana.

    1. JoJo, what they did to Princess Diana was incomprehensible! I honestly think the Duchess of Cambridge will be protected better simply because Prince William will not tolerate the same treatment for his wife. He loves her and that is obvious. Diana's story is so sad. After the tragedy of Diana's death the press are held on a much tighter lease as they should be. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your great comments!!

  4. Thanks for visiting my blog. I still have to do the letter "O". So much to catch up to.
Great post about the Queen. She has changed a lot. I lived in England from 1972, to 1974 ( March). Then she looked much younger. But again I changed from a young twenty year old to a sixty two year senior citizen - - - life!

  5. I have mixed feelings about our royalty. While I accept that the Queen has done an amazing job over the last 60 years, I also think it took Diana's death and the public reaction to force the monarchy into the 'modern' age. I have absolutely no time for Prince Charles because of his treatment of Diana and then his marriage to Camilla. But at least William and Kate give me some hope for the future of the monarchy here.

    1. Paula, I agree completely that it took Diana's death to wake them all up. Sad really. Fortunately, the longer the Queen lives the less time Prince Charles will have on the throne and then Prince William and his wife can take over. Once that happens the monarchy will be back on track. There is hope as they seem to be splendid. Thank you for stopping in to read and for your insightful comments! ♥

  6. Any type of "being in the limelight" comes with the prerequisite training (or OJT). Stars, Queens, Prize winners, well you get the idea. They all lose a bit of their personal space (sometimes more than it was worth) and are thrust into the spotlight.

Even though you say you are shy, I can imagine that if you had been born into the shoes that would one day be the Queen's, that you would also learn how to walk in them long before you put them on your feet. (thinks... hmmm is THIS how fairy tales are born?) grinZ... great post Kathy!

    1. November Rain, I am sure you are right. If it is your birthright, you have little choice and would be groomed for the throne from birth. I am so pleased you enjoyed my post. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!!

    1. Joyce, when you put it that way...if you are born into it you always pee and poop royally. LOLOLOL It is just the most natural thing in the world, and I am sure you learn how to do it discreetly so the paparazzi doesn't snap you in the process. :D Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments. ♥

  8. I looooovvvveee the Queen. I've seen interviews with her and I seriously think we could totally hang out. She is one kick ass woman who I believe, gets a bad rap. Could she and should she have handled the death of Princess Diana better, absolutely. I, much like everyone else was furious with the Queen. Diana absolutely deserved every bit of royal pomp and circumstance. But overall. I just really dig this woman. I would love to meet her and chat with her for a bit over tea. Won't ever happen but I can dream. Never know, we could both be looking for a bathroom at the same time because we both have to royaly pee!
Sry I'm behind on my normal obsessive commenting but I've got a ton of crap going on!

    1. Magical Mystical Mimi, I am so pleased you liked my post. I love all things royal and between you and me have a mammoth collection of books and collectibles about all things royal. It was terrible when Princess Diana died. I imagine it was awful for her too. She could have handled it better. I would love to meet her. She can't help the way her children act, no more than the rest of us can. Wouldn't that be wild to meet the queen in the bathroom? I am so pleased you enjoyed my post, and thank you for the awesome compliment. I feel tears and I am grinning from ear to ear. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments!!

  10. You know... the whole Diana thing left a really sour taste in my mouth when it came to the Queen and especially Prince Charles. Truth be told, I really don't know enough about the Queen, especially prior to Diana's death--because what I was most interested in reading from the Royals was about Diana and her two little boys. Well-- now there is William and Kate and like Paula said, they give me hope.

    Cheers, Jenn

    1. Jenn, I am just one of these folks that have always been fascinated with the royals from way back. I have a huge collection of biographies and magazines of some of history's most famous monarchs right up to the present day. I am more fascinated with the big picture and always have been. Although what Prince Charles did to Princess Diana left a bad taste in my mouth as well and the aftermath of her death was just inexcusable of the royals...I still am fascinated with the whole life of castles and tiaras. Maybe it is the little girl in me. I believe as the rest of the world does that the monarchy's biggest hopes lie with Prince William and his wife. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!! ♥
