The writing prompt from NaBloPoMo today is:
When I was a little girl, I was always drawn to the Scottie dog when it was time to choose a token for Monopoly. The Scottie dog is cute and symbolizes how much I like animals in general. I am sure if the powers that be at Hasbro would have included a cat, I would have chosen that every time. I have always loved cats. It is just in the last 8 years of my life that my love affair with dogs has grown.
When I think about it, my parents were always the same tokens. My mother always chose the cowboy on the horse and my dad was always the race car. My dad loved racing his entire life and even today in my mind the race car will always remind me of my dad.
Since my mom died, I have chosen the cowboy on the horse as my personal token more and more. I have grown up and matured. The cute Scottie dog of my youth has been regulated to my past. People that knew my mother say I am a lot like her in looks and personality. In reflection I realize, it is not the horse that draws us but the cowboy. When it comes right down to it, we both would have rather saved the horse and rode the cowboy until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.
“What piece do you have to be in Monopoly and why?”

Which token are you when you play Monopoly?
Maybe you have always had a soft spit for dogs and just only came to realize it in the last year? I have always loved both cats and dogs...but seem to connect more with dogs.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Jenn
Jenn, that could very well be!! Now I love them both. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments. ♥
DeleteWhat a great question! I always chose the dogs too, but more importantly, picking my token or maker for any game was always a very important decision for me...interesting.
ReplyDeleteNice blog, Kathy! (and thanks for the award. I'll try to find time to claim it. Feeling very disorganized these past several days)!
Beachlover, you are very welcome. Thank you for stopping in to read and comment!! I always looked at each token and tried to decide which one would bring me the most luck. :D ♥
DeleteInteresting! I'm always the little shoe (no surprise there!) and my hubby is the top hat. Funny that we choose the same one every single time, although when we play with the grands, we let them choose first, so there are times when we happily select a secondary token. :O)
ReplyDeleteWord Nerd, how cool that you and your hubby are always the shoe and top hat!! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments! ♥
DeleteI was always, and am still, the cowboy on the horse. I was a western/cowboy fanatic from a young age!
ReplyDeleteJoJo, how cool!! What a neat insider look into the real you! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments! ♥
Deletewonderful post! I love how telling this Monopoly game is in your writing, about your family!Funny about the scotty dog -- my mom still has our very old monopoly board game from when I was growing up and one week the boys pulled it out of her dusty chest; of course, it was missing pieces, but not the scotty dog (and the iron). Somehow one of the boys "stole" the scotty and it wound up back at our house mixed up with the legos. It acutlaly wound up in a photo on one of my posts...as for the cowboy, I don't remember that one! Maybe you're a little younger than I am and that was a newer version...: A younger one! :))
ReplyDeleteSandra, what a cool story!! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!!♥
DeleteI never liked the game monopoly when I was growing up. It was too slow. I'm like Sandra though, I don't remember the cowboy. Fun post!
ReplyDeleteKAT, it did drag on! It always seemed a lot more fun with plenty of popcorn and plenty of Monopoly money in my coffers! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!♥
DeleteHahahaha! Great memories, and you made me think of some myself, thanks for the time trip.
