Thank You Kind Strangers- BFF 188 and GBE2

It seems especially fitting after the week I have had with my son’s accident to take the time to thank all of you for your good wishes, thoughts, and prayers during this chaotic time in my life.  When disaster struck, I was in the last phases of the A-Z challenge determined to finish.  Finish I did.  Writing calmed my nerves like nothing else could.

You were all quick to offer your outrage and support at the treatment we received at the local hospital’s ER department.  You gave your prayers and kindness quickly and often over the course of these dark days as my son’s condition went from bad to worse.  Jenn, Mary, and Jo offered their kind loving hearts and sympathetic ears by instant message when I needed someone most.  Thank all the kind bloggers who belong to the GBE2 and Writer's Post's groups!   I can honestly say that when something like this happens there is no other time I feel more on my own with my husband on the road and me here to cope.

Today my son is home once again.  Even though he returned to school on Tuesday because his fever finally broke, by yesterday he had suffered a relapse from simply doing too much to soon.  He came home from school and instantly fell asleep on the couch for 4 ½ hours.  When he awoke, he was once again burning up with a fever of 103.9, complaining of a headache and pain in his legs.  It seems we have gone through a lot of Motrin and Tylenol in the last week in an attempt to keep this fever at bay.

Panic gripped my heart once again.  Once again I notified my doctor at home.  Once again he told me to treat the fever, and report to the emergency door of his clinic first thing in the morning.  Once again I found myself watching my son being checked over thoroughly by the man who has cared for me and my family my entire life.  It seemed fitting to remind this kind, wonderful doctor that we first met 44 years ago this Saturday.  That’s right, this same doctor brought me into this world all those many years ago and he means the world to me.

With a note excusing my son from school for the remainder of the week, we headed first to his school to drop off the note, then home so my son could relax, I could clean house, and as always I could write.  It seemed only fitting that I sit down now that the dust is settling and I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel to thank all of my kind readers for reading my words, for your kind comments, thoughts, and prayers.  It seemed fitting to thank Dr. Robert Abel for his kindness and dedication to the care of my son, and my family throughout the years.  A lot of family doctors keep themselves at a professional distance from their patients, if even at times a stand offish snooty stranger.  Dr. Abel has always seemed more a dear lifelong family friend.

Before I am all said and done, I would like to thank Sherri who has been like a sister to me my whole life and for being that kind, concerned voice of reason when I was losing my mind.   Thank you to my dear husband, who I love more than life itself.  Without him, life just wouldn’t be worth much.  I am so happy and relieved he is finally coming home today!!  This blog has opened me up to a world of wonderfully kind people who are nice enough to visit my little place in cyber space, read my words, and often join in the conversation by putting in their two cents.  Thank you for being a friend, whether stranger or not, until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

    1. Beachlover, the kind words and smiles can really be the only light in a very bleak world. I really needed it this week, and everyone was so kind and came through for me. Suddenly I no longer felt so alone and that was the best feeling in the world. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments. ♥

  5. sorry he's back home again! I have to say, my pediiatrican is very conservative compared to most others; when my son had pneumonnia 3 times, each time he had him stay home a week, while other kids were told they could reeturn to school a couple of days later. those were the kids who relapsed. Especially at this age, as much as my husband may protest, I am conservative as well. Ryan went to a covering doc yesterday who said he could go to school today, but...I kept him home. SO glad your hubby is on his way! You need a HUG!

    1. Sandra, I am just pleased that he is on the mend. I will be on him constantly now making sure he doesn't over do and rests. After all, he is the only little boy I have. I would DIE if I lost him. That is just not an option for me. Conservative and over protective is A-OK in my book. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments. ♥

  6. I am so sorry to hear this. I have a burst of energy lately, so have been offline more than on as I do all the things I have been doing...cleaning, planting, yard work and more... I'm sorry I wasn't here for you but happy to read that so many others were. I said a prayer for the little guy before typing this. I pray he is well again soon. God bless you all.

    1. Julie, My son is on the mend and according to the doctor will be ready to return to school Monday and resume normal activity. Hopefully he will have learned a lesson from this escapade that he is in fact not a bird and can not fly. He is not a super hero or one of the heroes in one of the many video games he loves. He is in fact a living breathing precious boy who when cut will bleed, and if he falls will get hurt. I think that is the worse thing about video games. It makes little kids think they are invincible and in the mean time accidents happen that never should have. Thank you for your prayers and for stopping by to read and for your kind comments. ♥

  12. Well, you have a big heart and that is why you collected some great friends. When my son was not a year old and my daughter was 5 my husband was stationed overseas for two years, so I know how it is to get through things alone and thankfully with great friends. I hope he is well on the way to recovery now.

    1. Katrin, I don't know about his normal self. I hope this episode has jarred a little more sense and self preservation into him than what he had before. He could be just a little less fearless in my opinion. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments!! I am feeling better too. Life might just go on again. My husband got home last night and brightened the whole perspective. ♥

  15. What a lovely post, Kathy! I'm so glad to hear that you have so much support when your husband is away and glad that he's coming back. I wish you the best for your son's complete recovery.
And I love your graphics, too, especially the "moving" ones. Do you find these on the web, or make them yourself? It always makes your blog so much more fun to visit!

    1. ElaineLK, I am so pleased you enjoyed my post. I used to feel so alone while my husband was away, but now I have found so many lovely people online and developed friendships within the blogging groups that I participate in that when this disaster happened to my son, all I had to do was put my heart out there and people like yourself came forward offering their good wishes. There is really so much kindness and goodness in the world. I am so pleased you enjoy the effort I put into the graphics and the design. Some I find, and some I make myself. Art has always been a past time for me and I even attended college for graphic design. It makes my day to think you feel I am doing something right. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!! ♥

I'm glad that you felt the love and support your friends offered, even if they weren't right there with you. Your little guy remains in my prayers, Kathy, as do you, the hubs, and your adorable daughter.

    1. Susan, it terrifies me and my husband to send our son back to school today knowing he will be facing that playground once again. We have both warned him to please be safe and careful and to stay off that slide! LOL! I would just love to wrap that one in cotton wool with a force field around it. He has always been so accident prone and the one most likely to be sick. I hope he grows out of that soon before my hair turns gray from the worry. I did report the incident at the ER, for whatever good that does. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!! ♥

  20. This was another great post, Kathy, but sorry that you had to experience all this. And as you wrote in your reply to Susan, you realize that you can't actually wrap them in cotton or have them sitting on a pillow all day. There are many obstacles in this world that we have to deal with. We just pray for the good Lord and his angels to carry us through these things.

Thanks for sharing and praying for complete resolution to each accident, Kathy.
