The dictionary states that a parody is in fact a written or musical work where the original is mimicked for comic effect. I have thought about this challenge all week, and like someone who is standing at the edge of the open door of a plane working up the courage to hurl myself thousands of feet to my doom with only a parachute to save me, I have waited and contemplated what in the name of G0d I could submit on this topic. Since my life tends to proceed to the beat of my favorite tunes it only seems fitting that I would end up cruising You Tube for inspiration.
What I discovered was a parody of one of my favorite tunes performed by Nickelback. Instead of wanting to be a rock star like the famous band, the parody focuses on being a pop star. I have watched both and really contemplated the implications of the words to both songs and I have decided I would much rather be a rock star than a pop star. I would much rather dress my a$$ in the latest fashions and hang out in the coolest bars with the VIPS and the movie stars than lose all sense of decency, sell out all my integrity, and end up shaving my head or in jail. Both versions hold a grain of truth.
hmm. Is that my only choice reality or parody? Gotta sleep on that one:)
ReplyDeleteYou should have done the enigma challenge. Parody I could never write about.:)
Sandra, I guess I should have added that you could choose neither which would have probably suited a lot of folks just fine! :D
DeleteThank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!!!
This was a good take on "parody!"
ReplyDeleteLibby, I am glad you enjoyed it. I had no idea what I was doing with this one! LOL Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteI wanna be a rock star. I wanna be cool, not cute!
ReplyDeleteDanneromero, I am with you!! I want to be cool and rich and have the time of my life bustin' a move. Don't really need the drug dealers on speed dial or the high lifestyle, but some of the fame and fortune and jammin' would be fun! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments. ♥
DeleteI love the way you wrote "what in the name of G0d could I submit for this topic" - the same thought went through my mind. I think you did an excellent job of it.
ReplyDeleteSuzy, that is exactly how I felt about this challenge. LOLOLOL I am so pleased you enjoyed my attempt. I actually thought how this parody is done is hilarious and it is so on the mark when it comes to the young starlets it features....Britney and Lindsey and Christina. LOL I have always loved Nickelback, so this song was an obvious choice for me. I would love to be a rock star...actually. I would love to be back stage, behind the scenes...running the sound equipment or doing the promotion. Very Cool. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments. ♥
DeleteLOL! Well, I wouldn't want to be a rock star, but I REALLY wouldn't want to be a pop star! :O)~
ReplyDeleteWord Nerd, Oh but wouldn't the perks be nice?? The big houses and living high on the hog!! Running about in leather pants and short skirts and being backstage and rocking out. Oh yeah, I could do that! I think it would be a blast. But then, I would be more of a Taylor Swift type. Wholesome and filthy rich!!! LOLOLOL Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!♥
DeleteFabulous parody! I want to be a famous writer. Yesterday, an author came to school and showed the kids a picture of him and RL Stine. They all read Stine's books, but no one had a clue who the dude in the picture was.

drchoneydewcrm, I am so pleased you enjoyed my stab at parody. I thought it was kind of fun and amusing, but wasn't sure how it would be received. Seems as if I may have hit the nail on the head. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments! ♥
DeleteI believe I will pass on both options! I'll just be the blog writin', book writin' and sun worshiping gal I've been for a long time. :)
ReplyDeleteJo, yes I think you are perfect as you are!! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your sweet comments! ♥
DeleteNo desire to be a rock star or pop star...perhaps a country star?? Naaah. I like life as a Wife and Mom that dabbles here and there with my various projects!! LOL. Nice post Kathy--you did good with this one :D Cheers, Jenn.
ReplyDeleteJenn, I am so pleased you enjoyed it!! This was the hardest writing challenge I ever came across. I almost didn't do it, then I thought well what the hell. If it sucks, it just does. LOL Thank you for stopping by to read and for your lovely comments! ♥
DeleteI LOVED this...how true...so so sad...get it about parody's now..so thankful you JUMPED!!your blog is not only nice and wonderful. It does gives goose bumps at times but I still want to read as being too inquisitive into it. At the same time, you said, you won't bite me this time! Well, can you switch off some gadgets at your side like layout so that the eyes that drool down the screen wont feel bad about the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteIt's just dinze the eyes! Hope my suggestion is good.
Sim, So pleased you stopped by to read and comment and happy you liked what you found here. I did a little cleaning up of the gadgets by removing some that are no longer relevant. Thank you for your suggestions and for stopping by to read and comment.
