I Want to See You!

NaBloPoMo asks
Which sense is more important to you: vision or hearing?

I would be hard pressed to choose between the two as both senses are equally important.  Without hearing sounds there would be no music and without sight there would be no beauty and color.  A person can adapt to just about anything if they have to with enough strength, faith, and hope.

If a time came where I had to choose which sense I had to give up I would choose my hearing.  I can not imagine not being able to see all the beauty in the world, the smiles on my children’s faces, or the twinkle in my husband’s eyes.  I would miss music, the sounds of the whispering breeze through the trees, the voices of the people I love, and the sound of the waves crashing on the beach, but I would endure and count my blessings that I could see the world around me and that I was alive.

While writing this I realize there are people in this world that have to endure life in darkness or a world without sound.  They don’t have a choice.  It is their fate and they must bravely live the life they are given.  Personally, I would hate the darkness and would much prefer the silence as long as I could see until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

  1. That is an interesting topic. I don't think I could choose. I'd just say, "God's will will prevail." I'd let Him choose! :-)

    1. Jo, I think it would be awful hard to choose. I agree. God should choose, and obviously it would be up to him anyways. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!

    1. Larissa, so pleased you enjoyed it! I would hate to have to choose too. Good thing decisions like that are completely out of our hands. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments! ♥

  4. I concur, if given a choice I would give up hearing over sight. To never see my beloved daughter's face. Her future children, her future life. I will always be able to hear her voice in my head.

  5. So interesting that this was the prompt for today. I was at zen practice tonight and during the dharma talk Dan quoted Helen Keller as once expressing that she felt sorry for people who could see and hear because they didn't get to experience things the same way she did. Dan went on to talk about how our senses sometimes get in the way of us being able to be wholly present in things.
Food for thought to be sure.

    1. Joanne, I have heard that. People that have lost one of their senses discover the ones they have left are magnified. Thank you for stopping by to read, comment, and join in the conversation! ♥

  6. I've been told that many people who are blind don't describe it as "darkness" as they don't know what that is. We close our eyes and see dark--their eyes are open and they just don't see with their eyes. It took a minute to wrap that one around my head.

Personally I couldn't choose which one to loose...I would just let nature take its course and whatever will be will be.

    Interesting post Kathy!

    1. Jenn, I would hate to have to choose too. It is a good thing that us mere mortals aren't forced to choose. That would be awful. That is quite a concept to contemplate. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments! ♥

  7. A few years ago doctors found that I had cataract in both eyes - at age 41. It was so scary to think that I might go blind, Kathy. Much of what I love to do needs my vision to be good - reading, writing, knitting.......I don't know how I would cope with the loss of any of my senses. More reason not to take anything for granted, don't you think?
