The Bus

This is a fictional story that I wrote for the Write Tribe 100 Words on Saturday writing prompt.

I stepped onto the bus bracing myself for the overwhelming noise and hurried to find a seat.  My head started to pound as I scooted closer to the window.  It was raining, so the window was closed trapping the stifling air inside.

Resting my head on the cool window pane, I watched the world pass by.  Finally, my house came into view and I stood making my way to the front and to my escape.  Happy, I knew it was my last day there.   Tomorrow I would have my ticket to sweet freedom: a car and my own driver’s license!

  1. Remember that sweet freedom at long last? It was so humiliating to be a senior and still riding the school bus. lol

    1. JoJo, fortunately I didn't have to endure that torture. Once I got my license my dad had a car for me waiting to drive. It was fun to go to the mall for no particular reason and to be able to go out to lunch. These days the high school's lunches are closed and they can't leave campus. Back in my hey day we could and I tool full advantage of it with a car load of friends. ♥ Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments and sharing your memories.

  2. I remember the first day I didn't have to get on a bus. My neighbor got his license and he would be driving his brother and me to school every day! It was awesome and so grown up!

Thanks for that happy though very long ago memory. 💜

    1. Jo, it was always so awful riding the bus especially as a person grew older and the excitement of riding something with so many seats wore off. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

    1. onethousandandtwo, cool! My first car was a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. The best part about it was that it was my first car. The first car I fell in love with was my next car that I got for graduation which was a 1984 Dodge Shelby Charger. It was one sweet ride. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

    1. Dana, I think public transportation with other adults would be OK. Riding a school bus was like being lowered into the pits of hell and being surrounded by a bunch of idiots seeing who can make the most noise. I remember it vividly. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!

    1. geeta, I celebrated my freedom from the bus. I hated how hot and loud it was. Just hated it. I loved the freedom my car afforded me...the radio full blast on music I liked, the air blowing through my hair. It was liberating! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
