I'll Be There

If only Brianna and he could see eye to eye.  He knew she had some mad school girl crush on him.  She knew he liked her but couldn’t understand why he was dragging his feet about taking their friendship to the next step.  There really was only four years separating them.   When she turned 20 he would be 24 and then the age difference wouldn’t matter.  Unfortunately, the idea of him seriously dating her now was simply out of the question.  She was only 16 after all, clearly jail bait.  He would be labeled a sexual predator if he even gave her half a glance or any romantic encouragement.  Even worse, her Dad would castrate him if he even thought about it.

Even days later, her fury felt like a kick in the teeth.  He honestly couldn’t blame her.    She had kissed him innocently enough.  He had made the mistake of kissing her back a little more passionately than he should of.  Still his arousal had been obvious for all to see. Sadly all she could see was his anger and rejection. He had suffered with egg on his face all week over that fiasco.  His friends laughed themselves silly over it.  He had gotten enough ribbing for that to last forever.    Still, they understood the situation more than she did.   She was innocent, and he intended for her to stay that way until the time was right.   Some day she would understand.  He was willing to wait for her, because he loved her.  He had a gut feeling that no one would ever compare to Brianna and that she was the only one for him.  One day he would make it up to her.  Until then he would keep his ear to the ground, hoping with all his soul that someone else wouldn’t steal her heart before he had a chance to claim it.  He knew that one day she would be his if the fates were kind.  Until then, he would wait, hope, and be the best friend she ever hoped to have.

A fictional story written for the Write Tribe Wednesday writing prompt asking us to write a story that using the 6 idioms given.

  1. Yeah that age difference thing is a real pain when you are a teen and your crush is 19 or 20. I had a ginormous crush on a senior when I was a sophomore, but because I started school a few months before I turned 5, I was a very young sophomore. We made out at a graduation party and I thought he truly liked me but he wouldn't pull the trigger on asking me out & I was devastated when he asked out my bff, who was a year older than me (and extremely mature). In the 90s, I heard he'd passed away from a faulty space heater. I was shocked when I saw his obit. He was actually quite a bit older than I thought....when he graduated he was close to his 20th birthday, not 18 like I'd assumed. That's probably why he backed away from taking things further with me.

    1. JoJo, I bet that is it! Age difference does suck a bit when you are younger like that. My husband is 6 years younger than me. Would have been wild when I was 18 because he would have been 12! But now that we are older the age difference doesn't matter at all. Thank you so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥

  11. The sad thing about idioms is to read them in a published book. Not just an indie book, but a legitimate publisher. many a book has been tossed in the waste basket when I encounter them.

    1. Susan, well this was for a writing challenge that called for using a list of idioms. Normally I don't use them. I am sorry that you have a zero tolerance for them. While I appreciate your comments, I find them a bit rude. Thank you for stopping by to read. It is a pity you couldn't find something nice to say and needed to flaunt your need to act superior.

  24. Wow, know that feeling! When I was in Ohio going to a trade school, I rented a trailer in a trailerpark with a couple other guys. This girl that lived in the park hung around with us all the time. She easily looked 18-19 like me. One night we got a little romantic..just kissing..and she said she had to get home as she had school in the morning. I asked her what college she was attending. She laughed and said "Not college, school school!"
Then she laughed again and said "I'm only 14 silly!" YIKES!!!!! They didn't grow 14 year olds like that when I was that age! Told her we couldn't be hanging out anymore as I wouldn't like jail!!! She left in tears...but whatcha gonna do?!?

  25. The age difference is a big deal when under age! I remember when I was sixteen, I'd been all upset because my mom wouldn't let me go to the movies with a guy from work (who happened to be 21.) Looking back on it now, it's a little creepy he even wanted to go out with me!

    1. jannatwrites, it sure is!! Sometimes when I think of older guys wanting to go out with a 13-14 year old when they are in their 20's, 30's, etc and I just want to cringe. It is a sick world we live in! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥
