My "Get Happy" Playlist

This month I am making December a little more joyful with NaBloPoMo!

Anyone that knows me at all knows that music makes my world go around.  I mean hells bells 99.9% of the time my face book status is that I have my tunes cranked and I am singing along.  Why, because that is what I do.  It makes me happy.  No matter what I am doing, my life has a definite soundtrack.  When contemplating my playlist I realized that it really depends on the day.  If I like a song, I add it to my favorite’s playlist on Spotify.  Have I said lately how much I adore Spotify?  I love Spotify, and I love my music.  So what really floats my boat and gets me in a great mood?

1.  Anything by Maroon 5, but especially “Maps” and “Animals” and the thought of Adam Levine naked thanks to that picture that circulated a while back on the internet just adds to the happiness factor.

2. Anything and I mean anything by Nickelback because honestly I love their music and I think Chad Kroeger and Daniel Adair are hot. So yeah, it is a no brainer that they are on the playlist.

3.      Billy Currington’s song “We are the Night!” because I can NOT listen to this song without singing along, and then playing it over and over, and singing along again because that is the way I roll.   No, I don’t really think he is hot, I just LOVE the song.  I thought I better clarify that since this is starting to look more like a list of sexy men than great music on my playlist.

4. “Bottoms Up” by Brantley Gilbert…once again because I love singing along with the song not because I think he is hot.  He may be hot to someone, he just isn’t to me.

5.  “Classic” by MKTO.  It is just a feel good song and I love singing along, end of story.  I actually bop in my chair to this one because I can.

6.  “Steal my Girl” by One Direction.  Another feel good song!  It is a song I have to sing along with.  I am simply compelled.

7.   “Mmm Yeah” by Austin Mahore and Pitbull is another one I can’t stop bopping to and singing along.  Yeah, I know you are getting a mental picture and are shaking your head about now…but there you go!

8.  “Wiggle” by Jason Derulo and Snoop Dog just because it cracks me up and I can identify with it because I have a big fat butt in my humble opinion.  I am that girl that checks out everyone else’s ass when I am out and about then look at my own and look and then look at my daughter and she assures me “No mom, not even close.”  Besides it is awful fun to dance to and sing those crazy ass lyrics.

9.   “Word Up” by Korn.  I love singing along and bopping to this one.  I know you are getting a mental vision right about now.  Keep a straight face!  OK, admit it, you can’t!

10.  “Yeah” by Usher.  Another great song that gets me bopping in my seat and typing faster than I am otherwise incapable of.

11.    “Addicted” by Saving Abel because it rocks and it is one sexy feel good kind of song.  I like it!

12.   “I’m Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO because the song is fun, the video is outrageous, and it just cracks me up.  Besides I can rank 5 stars on the “Just Dance” version of this song because I am just that awesome, and always beat my kids on at least song.  I got my wiggle on and I know how to flex.

There’s an even dozen of the songs that make me do a happy dance.  I could have went on forever,  since writing this post I am on top of the world and firmly in my happy place.

Tuesday Tunes

Today my heart is heavy following the devastation of the tornadoes in Oklahoma.  Because of that the songs I chose for today reflect that.  I have always been a big fan of Nickelback and their song "Lullaby" is one of my favorites.  The video focuses on a young father coping with the death of his wife following the birth of their son.  In the aftermath he hardly knows how to proceed, but realizes that he and his son belong together.

Diamond Rio's song "I Believe" has always touched my heart as it mirrors my beliefs that life does go on, nothing ends, and then you are gone.  I love it because I do believe and have faith.  I believe that everything happens for a reason.  Even though we can't understand the whys of such a disaster and the tragedies that result, they do draw us closer to each other.

Finally, especially poignant today in the wake of the devastation and destruction in Oklahoma I find myself especially drawn to a song recorded by Alabama entitled "Angels Among Us".  I believe their are angels among us.  They are the ones who are there to help in the aftermath and those that selflessly lend a much needed hand.  They are the angels among us.  May G0d be with each person who was touched by this disaster as you struggle to come to terms with the aftermath and rebuild your lives.

Parody: Rock Star or Pop Star?

The dictionary states that a parody is in fact a written or musical work where the original is mimicked for comic effect.  I have thought about this challenge all week, and like someone who is standing at the edge of the open door of a plane working up the courage to hurl myself thousands of feet to my doom with only a parachute to save me, I have waited and contemplated what in the name of G0d I could submit on this topic.  Since my life tends to proceed to the beat of my favorite tunes it only seems fitting that I would end up cruising You Tube for inspiration.

What I discovered was a parody of one of my favorite tunes performed by Nickelback.  Instead of wanting to be a rock star like the famous band, the parody focuses on being a pop star.  I have watched both and really contemplated the implications of the words to both songs and I have decided I would much rather be a rock star than a pop star.     I would much rather dress my a$$ in the latest fashions and hang out in the coolest bars with the VIPS and the movie stars than lose all sense of decency,  sell out all my integrity, and end up shaving my head or in jail.  Both versions hold a grain of truth.

Would you rather be a rock star?

Or would you rather be a pop star?

What lifestyle suits  you best, the reality or the parody?  That is all I have to say about parodies until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker's wife.

N is for Now

Right now, my husband is home watching John Deere You Tube movies on his android phone.  I have never understood why he gets such a charge out of watching them, but he does.  What is laughable is that he thinks I might give a rat’s a$$ enough to watch them too.

Right now my favorite singing group is Nickelback.  I love their music and like nothing better than to hear their music blaring from my CD player.  I like about every song they perform.  If I had to pick a favorite off their latest CD “Here and Now” it would be “Lullaby”.   I love the song and the video!

Right now my husband says that one of the tires on my blazer is pregnant.  Can tires be pregnant??  They can’t have $ex.  He went to trade school and got an associates degree in auto mechanics so I think he thinks himself quite the brilliant intellectual when he throws out terms like that.  All I know is there is a bubble on the tire and according to him it is there because of me.  Evidently I got a little to close to the wooden railroad ties that line one side of our driveway.  All I know is I am pleading the 5th, and my story is that it wasn’t me.  It probably was, but it is just entirely beyond the point!!  The bottom line is that I need to get a new tire, and unless I want to be alongside the road trying to figure out how to change tires I will have to drive the truck.

Right now my kids are at school so it is the perfect time to be creative and write my contribution for the letter N.  Except for the sounds of the rumbling of John Deere tractors and idiots carrying on about them punctuated by my husband’s giggles and helpful comments to the stars of said You Tube videos, the house is as quiet as it usually is when he is on the road.  The dryer can be heard running and yowling cats in heat can be heard from the other end of the house.

Right now my head is pounding and my allergies are raging.  Since I am allergic to everything but cockroaches, spring is usually rough for me.  I take my Benedryl and headache pills and walk around in a daze.  Eventually as the season goes on I will become more immune to the Benedryl and it won’t make me so tired.  As it is, my head feels as big as my living room and my nose keeps running full speed down my face.  Right now, I wish the medicine would take hold and kick in!!

Right now I am still 43, but before long I will be 44.  I won’t think about that now.  I won’t think about how OLD I am getting. Like Scarlett O’ Hara from “Gone with the Wind”, I will think about that tomorrow until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

Places to Go Before I Die

If money was no object, and I could go anywhere here is a list of where I would like to go.

1.  London, England, UK
I would love to see the castles, the crown jewels, see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, and take a ride on a double decker bus.

2.  Paris, France
I would want to go explore Paris and see the Eiffel Tower lit up at night.  I want to cruise the Ritz Hotel, check out the Place Vendome, and eat at a café or bistro.

3.   Venice, Italy
Who doesn’t want to take a ride on a gondola under the Bridge of Sighs with their sweetie at least once in their life??

4.   Disney World and all surrounding Disney Parks
I haven’t been there since I was 18, and I would love to go explore the parks with my husband and kids!!

5.   Any tropical island in the Caribbean
Just once I would like to be a Bahamas’ mama living la vita loca!! Imagine me sucking down the tropical drinks with the nifty little umbrellas watching the sunset on some beach somewhere.

6.   Niagara Falls
I think I would love to see the falls just once.

7.  Washington DC
It would be fun to run around the city and soak up American history!

8.   Las Vegas, Nevada
I might want to check out Las Vegas just once to see what all the fuss is about.  After all, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!!  The shows alone would be worth the visit!

9.  Nickelback concert- Anywhere!!
     This goes without saying!!

10. Ozzy Osbourne concert-Anywhere!!
Seeing Ozzy in concert would be awesome!!

11.  Wizarding World of Harry Potter  at Universal Studios
Not sure I would want to get on any roller coasters but it would be awfully cool to walk the streets of Hogsmead and check out Hogwarts!!

In reality, when you spend most of your life at home you realize you would like to go just about anywhere at least once.  I am not picky and trips to museums and zoos will work for me!!  I am quite the happy camper, and it hasn’t escaped my imagination to go camping in cool National Parks or even explore the wonders of the caves of Kentucky.  Where would you most like to go?  I am open to suggestion until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

Would I Stay or Would I Go??

Today the brilliant minds at NaBloPoMo want to know whether I would rather stay or go.  That all depends on what my options are, so let’s just explore a few for clarity.

1.  Would I rather stay home or go back to work?  I am used to being home, and although the paycheck and extra money is appealing, if I have the choice I will stay home.

2.  Would I rather stay home or go to see Nickelback, or Ozzy Osbourne, or any of my favorite singing groups live in concert?  I want to go!! Sign me up!! I am so there, jumping up and down, screaming, throwing fresh panties on the stage! (I have always wanted to do that, not exactly sure why… but hell, it sounds like fun!)

3.  Would I rather stay home or go to jury duty? Well, that is a no brainer.  No one wants to serve jury duty.  Although at this point my kids are at school all day, and I don’t have an excuse.  With no trains to catch, I can still think of more fun things to do than THAT.

4.  When I quit college and came home I remember my Dad coming into my room.  I remember bracing myself for a good telling off.  Instead he sat there silent for a few minutes.  Then he hit me with “Since you aren’t doing anything now, do you want to go to Disney World?”  Sphincter says what??  Can I get a hell yeah??  You would not have to ask me twice about any vacation destination.  I would be packing my bags and making plans before you changed your mind.  I would go!!

5.  Do I want to go grocery shopping and pay bills? Do I have a choice?  I would rather stay home, but a body has to eat and the bills must be paid so I will go dragging my feet all the way.  It is never fun to watch a wad of cash dwindle to nothing.

Bottom line if I am sure of a fun time, count me in.  If I know it is just going to be a nightmare from hell then I will drag my heels and beg not to be forced to go.  Most of the time, I am game for just about anything because I don’t get out much.  It never hurts to blow the stink off your a$$ every now and then until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

Jane's Story: What Really Happened that Night

This is a fun, "fictional" story I wrote  for the GBE2 blogging prompt this week.  We were challenged to come up with a more interesting story to explain how our friend Jane ended up with 27 stitches.  This is my submission. I hope you enjoy it!

Did you hear what happened to our dear friend Jane?  The last thing she remembers is sitting innocently at her computer working on her latest blog while sipping an innocent glass of wine.  According to Jane, she woke up in a pool of blood with a huge gash on her face and has no clue how in the world she got that way.  Can anyone possibly believe her innocent tale that she blacked out, banged her head into a wine glass which broke, and left the horrendous gash?  I am here to tell you the real story.

Jane was home alone at the time.  For one reason or another, everyone was out busy elsewhere and Jane was left to her own devices.  She was primed for a good time, and was pretty sure she wasn’t going to find it staring at Face Book or working on the current blog she was struggling to write.  All of sudden her best friend instant messaged her.  “What are you doing?” Jane quickly typed in “Absolutely nothing.”  “Want to go to a concert at the coliseum?”  Jane didn’t even have to think twice.  She immediately typed in “Yes” and made plans for her friend to pick her up in 15 minutes.

She raced to her bedroom,  threw on the perfect outfit, styled her hair, applied fresh makeup, grabbed her purse,  and was at the curb waiting when her friend drove up 15 minutes later.  In route to the coliseum Jane asked her friend who was playing and where their seats were located.  She really had no clue.  Her friend gave a little giggle and said with a grin “We are going to see Nickelback, and we don’t have tickets!”  Now Jane knew her friend was nuts. How in G0d’s name were they going to get in without tickets??  After a quick stop at a local bar and a double shot of courage better known as tequila the ladies were up for the task to try just about anything.

The double shot of tequila had warmed Jane from the inside out.  She felt good, even better than good. She felt that she could do anything.  They approached the stage entrance trying to figure out a way to get in when a group of people came out.  Jane grabbed her friend’s hand and they mingled in the crowd coming out and slipped inside without anyone noticing.

“Holy $hit! What do we do now?? We are so going to get kicked out of here!!”  Her friend smiled a wicked grin and grabbed Jane’s hand dragging her toward the stage where music could be heard and a crowd roared their approval.  A guard built like a Mac truck stopped them in route demanding to see their backstage passes. “Oh Lordy, this was it! This was the moment they would get thrown out.  Jane was about to admit they didn’t have backstage passes when her friend quickly explained they were told they would receive their passes once they were inside.   Looking frazzled the man whipped two passes out of his pocket and handed them over telling them to take their places on the side of the stage.

The music was loud, and the beats of the drums deafening. Jane and her friend jumped up and down and sang along as the band rocked the crowd.    At precisely the moment that the lead singer sang “She looked so much cooler with something in her mouth”, Jane backed up a little to far and fell backwards off the stage bouncing off a speaker as she went.  Security rushed forward and the concert came to a standstill as everyone in proximity rushed forward to give Jane assistance.  Her cheek was bleeding profusely.  The ambulance was called, and Jane was rushed to the local ER where she received 27 stitches for her moment in the spotlight.  The fall had knocked her unconscious.  Between the tequila, the gash on her cheek, and the concussion she received Jane didn’t completely know how she came to be at the hospital, why she was bleeding, or even how she made it back home.  It was all a blur.

If anyone asked, she simply had blacked out while sitting at her computer screen, broke a wine glass which cut her face, and received 27 stitches.  G0d only knew what happened to her underwear, why she was dressed to the nines for a quiet evening at home, or even what she had really done to her cheek to warrant stitches.  Sometimes the truth is a little hard to believe with the only souvenir that remains a fiery red scar and 27 stitches for Jane’s wild night with Nickelback.
