Brilliant Disguise

This year for Halloween I am dressing up as a slightly overweight stay at home mom in the throes of mental-pause.  You guessed it; I will be going as myself which is scary enough!  It will be a brilliant disguise and no one will suspect.  I will be the one trailing after my two little goblins as they race from house to house begging for treats.  Without any doubt I will be wearing jeans, sweatshirt, and my Notre Dame jacket and struggling to keep warm and carrying a flashlight because above all else, I am a safety girl.  Dressed in layers is the ticket because by Halloween it is usually pretty cold here in northern Indiana.

I used to love dressing up when I was a kid.  Besides the heaps of candy, it was the best part of Halloween.  If I were going to some Halloween party or getting some sweet treats out of the deal I might be tempted to dress up. Since my daughter and I resemble each other so closely, maybe, just maybe I could dress up too and trick or treat with them.  Just a fleeting thought.   But hey, even though I am only 5 ‘0 tall and about even in size with my daughter, I know that no one is going to pass out treats to a 45 year old.   Good sense will rule the day and I will sidetrack the fun and follow along behind lighting the way with my trusty flashlight like a good mommy.  If I want candy, I will bypass all the work and buy my own and sneak it out when I need a candy fix from my desk drawer.  Why, because that is the way I roll.

    1. Corinne, LOL well at least I get my own stash and if I hide it in my desk door the kids don't devour it. It is all for me! Thank you for stopping in and for your fun comments! ♥

    1. Shilpa, I can see no reason to dress up just to tramp around the neighborhood. Warm and comfortable is my motto. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!♥

  8. I love that cool old car in the picture. I love love love Halloween and have been waiting for it all year. Your costume is perfect for watching your little ones do all the work getting the candy. I'm with you too on having my own stash in my desk drawer. Our Halloweens are usually on the very warm side of temps which is too bad because most of the costumes can be dang hot!

    1. Holli, I love it too!!! I have always loved Halloween. Costumes are hot. One year I dressed my daughter in the cutest Eeyore costume that even had a voice box that said "Thanks for noticing me". She got too hot and promptly threw up. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

  9. The last time I trick or treated was my sophomore year in college. What fun! I have never gotten many kids, even when I lived in a neighbourhood in WA. No one wanted to climb our steep, dark driveway that was slick with pine needles and moss. Here, there aren't any little kids.

    1. JoJo, growing up we never got many trick or treaters at our house. Mom would buy up about 10 different bags of candy then combine them in a huge bowl. For the few trick or treaters we had she would assemble goody bags with all of the different treats in them. When I got married my husband and I went out and bought 3 bags of candy to hand out. Within 15 minutes the candy was gone. Once the kids were born we are always busy Halloween night taking our kids around trick or treating. Thank you for stopping by and for sharing your Halloween memories! ♥

  11. I am going as the same thing this year..... I am 5'0 too, and 47, so pretty darn close! I used to dress up for parties, but not the last few years. I smiled when I read about people not giving you candy at our age, well for some reason last few years adults come to my door looking for a treat. The first few times I thought it odd, now I laugh with them. My last costume was Winnie the Pooh of course.

    1. mytakeoneverything9, you are way ahead of me!! I haven't even THOUGHT about what the kids will be for Halloween. They will be in layers though. One year it drizzled, but we were out there freezing collecting the candy like crazy people. LOL Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

    1. jyothisdayout, and by stocking your own you are assured of getting all of your favorites!! You should! It is so much fun. When I worked at the library we dressed up every year. The children's department would lead dressed up little kids on a Halloween parade through the library and they loved seeing our costumes as much as we loved seeing theirs. Great fun! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

  14. I remember those days . . . my kids would get so excited about dressing up in their costumes. Actually, I did dress in costume to greet children at the door when my kids were old enough to trick-or-treat on their own. Lots of fun!

  15. I happily give candy to anyone in costume, no matter their age! I'd prefer giving candy to an adult dressed up over those normally-dressed people who bring their dressed-up newborn baby around. Really? I'm so sure your baby is going to eat this Snickers.

    1. Lisa, I have seen people like that! I dressed both of my kids up for Halloween when they were babies and took them to their grandparents so they could see. Both of them were very small for their first Halloween and I had great fun dressing them as a little pumpkin (daughter) and a red hot chili pepper (son). Thank you for stopping by and for your comments! ♥
