In the Middle

Written for the NaBloPoMo writing prompt :

"Do you have a tendency to procrastinate, or do you like checking things off your to-do list?"

I tend to run down the middle of the road of life winging it as I go along.   While I am not a great planner and tend to fly by the seat of my pants, I always manage to get done what needs doing when it needs to be done.  When under pressure I focus and do one thing at at time.  Honestly, I do make lists.  I make grocery lists.  I list what bill collectors are going to be blessed with my money and which ones will have to wait till another day.   I list the prompts available to write and then write them one at a time.  I never plan posts, ever.  When I am participating in a writing challenge, whether it lasts a week or a month, I write my posts the day they are due.  It is the way I roll.  I envy those who write all their posts and schedule them for the day they need to publish.

For tasks that I would rather not do, like washing dishes and mopping floors, I procrastinate.  I put it off until I absolutely have to do it.  While normal people do their dishes after they eat, I am ass backwards and do the dishes before I cook another meal.  Then we eat, and the dishes wait until I am ready to cook again.  Very rarely I will quickly wash the dishes immediately.

If I make lists at all it is in the form of reminders.  For a person who flies with their head up their ass most of the time as I do, I need my notes to self otherwise I would be clueless.  Being spontaneous is part of my charm and also contributes to my habitual gift of fits of giggles.  My spontaneity is one of my finest attributes.  In the end, it doesn’t really matter if you are a planner or a procrastinator.   What matters is that you get the job done when it is supposed to be done and do it to the very best of your ability.

    1. Jackie T, I would too if he was here more. Unfortunately I would rather not hear him complain about having to do it. Sometimes it is just better to do it oneself. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

  2. I procrastinate, then I make a list, and then I thoroughly enjoy checking things off the list. :D

    1. Carrie, the only thing I make lists for is blog challenges to write. That is about it. It is nice to check them off when I do make one. Most of the time I just wing it. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

  3. Yep! It's all about gettin' it done, no matter how you roll! Kathy, I love your spontaneity - it really does show in your writing. I'm more of the writing planner, but we do what works best for us, don't we?
    Love and blessings!

    1. Martha, I agree. As long as the work gets done, it doesn't really matter how you go about it to get to that point. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥

  4. Loved the last line - "What matters is that you get the job done when it is supposed to be done and do it to the very best of your ability." Quite aptly sums up the entire post.

  5. If that's what works for you, there's no reason to change! :) I am a list maker but I'm also one of those pre-schedulers. I was the student that started working on the final paper prep work at the beginning of the semester.

    1. JoJo, you are lucky to have all your ducks in a row. There are many times when I am down to the wire that I wish I had been more of a planner. Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments. ♥

  7. I make lots of lists and they stress me out. I tend to go in waves of getting things done, and then not. But I'm very organized if it involves other people.

  9. I am a list maker and I wash up dishes as I go along and most nights immediately after after dinner, if not first thing in the morning. I just don't like the dishes piling up. The laundry on the other hand.. Ugh. The bane of my existence. If only it would fold itself and put itself away..

  13. I liked the last line too. What matters is that you get the job done when it is supposed to be done and do it to the very best of your ability. Yet I envy many bloggers who plan their posts in advance and publish them. If one has a hectic schedule then planning is the key to success. I need to work on this :)

  17. What about procrastinating to the point of never doing it? I get a lot more done in the summer in terms of cleaning and being organized. While teaching, it's hard to get anything done. That's the scary thing. I did absolutely nothing during my vacation, which is just now ending. :(

  18. I'm terrible for making lists! I have tons of them, all over the place....all still waiting for me to sort through. Guess I add too many things onto them and get a bit overwhelmed, freak out and then eat ice cream instead of doing the tasks. Oops.

    That'll change this year.

  20. I too make lists esp. when I have a lot in hand. Has always helped both in office and at home. Relieves one of unnecessary tensions. I have also found it very useful while preparing for a journey. But I bet no one can beat my daughter when it comes to making lists. If she s there there is no need to worry.

    Great post Kathy.
