Resolutions under Pressure

Write Tribe

It is New Year’s Day 2014!  I have resolved to write more this year, create even more art, laugh even more than I usually do, and worry even less.   As 2013 came to a close, I took a little time away from blogging to enjoy my husband and kids and the holidays in general.  It was great, all of it!  I love having them all home celebrating Christmas and ringing in the New Year.  Before long, my husband will head back to work, my kids back to school, and the dogs and I will be left to our own devices during the day.  I dragged my heels about signing up for writing every single day in January.  I wondered if I could find the words to post every single day.  It would be so much easier not too, so much easier to sit back and post a couple days a week and be done.

Now that I have committed to write each and every day in January with the Ultimate Blog Challenge and NaBloPoMo, we will find out how well I really do under pressure.  In the past I have proven I can rise to the occasion and tend to do fairly well but you never know.   No one knows their destiny.  Anything can happen.  Life tends to throw curve balls that blow a person’s best laid plans and ruin even the best of intentions.

Zentangle I created of my husband's semi truck as a Christmas surprise for him.
In 2013, I rediscovered my creativity and began drawing again.  I tried my hand at writing fiction and challenged myself to write haiku.  I taught myself to knit socks and created many pairs.  I am currently working on another set now.  It was a year of discovery.  I discovered that I could still draw, I could write, and I could do just about anything I put my mind to.  I baked baguettes.  I perfected my home made French fries and even began creating the perfect burger.  I experimented in the kitchen and added even more dishes to my family’s growing list of food favorites.  I explored the world through my camera lens.  Most of all I joined a fabulous group of writers  and contributed my stories  and photography to not only the Woven Press but also a story to the Write Tribe Anthology.   I even got a chance to sub in the cafeteria at my son’s school in December and make money.    Looking back, I realize 2013 was a great year filled with blessings and great memories.  It is New Year’s Day and the sky is the limit!!  I am ready, bring it on!

  6. It's good that you took a break and took stock of 2013 as it has proven to be quite a nice year with some awesome achievements thrown in, and that Zentangle, wow, that truly is something else. Am sure your husband was mighty pleased to see his semi truck immortalized in this form and fashion. Here's wishing you all the very best for UBC and NaBloPoMo for Jan. Am more than sure you will crack both of them...

  24. Well, didn't know Kathy about this ultimate blog challenge but just signed up for it, as if I have time between my own blogging, the new Woven Press site and actual issues. But it might prove cathartic and that's what I need. Thanks for your comforting comment on my latest post. I remember reading about how you started that clerical job after your mom died as a way of trying to learn how to live on without her…I think I'm already having to start that process.

I'm so happy that you're drawing again....and I wish you all the best with January NaBloPoMo. The December one was enough for me for a little while (so I'm back on a regular schedule). I may take on another blogging challenge soon though.
