You find them everywhere, at the grocery store, and at the bank. Business establishments love to hand out free lollipops to kids. Every time I go to the bank I see the cups full of them on top of the counter tempting anyone who doesn’t have the willpower to just say no.
I am just as guilty as any. Free candy? Hell yes! Count me in! Who can just take one? What harm is there in just one innocent lollipop? Your little darling loves them so!! The next thing you know the kids are sneaking more than one. When I was a kid, I loved lollipops. I would go through tons while I read countless books.
All of a sudden the Day of Judgment comes. You are sitting beside your kid in the dentist office in complete shock as the dentist lowers the boom. Those innocent lollipops did their damage. Sugar on a stick the dentist calls them and the result is a mouthful of cavities in need of a mouthful of stainless steel crowns. Thousands of dollars later the lesson has been learned the hard way. Was the pain, agony, and dentists bill worth the aggravation? My guess would be no, probably not.
I always get a bag of blow pops near halloween but I only give away the cherry flavoured b/c I love the others. lol
ReplyDeleteJoJo, I love blow pops!! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteI loved Charms suckers as a kid:) still like dum-dums
ReplyDeleteTayla, they were the best! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteI don't believe that at all. I think cavities are more genetically induced. Some kids will eat all kinds of sugary crap and never get a cavity while others are doomed before they suck. I lucked out in the good teeth department. Members of my family die young with a mouth full!

Joyce, I believe that too. I had bad teeth as did my husband and I think genetics played a big role. Still I can't forget my son's habit for eating as much candy as humanly possible even if he had to sneak it. Now since he had to endure having all those teeth fixed I think he is more conscious of taking care his teeth. The dentist seemed convinced it was the evil suckers that was the contributing factor. He goes so far as to buy the kids Halloween candy for so much money a pound to keep them from eating it. I have never participated in that program because the whole point of trick-or-treating is eating the candy. It is part of being a kid and I have no intention of depriving me kids of their spoils. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteI have heard that chocolate isn't bad for your teeth because it just melts off them, but sugary stuff (i.e. lollipops) are the really bad things!
ReplyDeleteTrisha, this is wonderful news about chocolate!! YAY! Thank you for stopping by to read and for your kind comments!
DeleteI agree with the bad mouth chemistry has more to do with the cavities. I have probably had close to 50 cavities over my almost 34 years of life and my husband has had 0! Fun post though--I only like root beer flavored lollipops : )Kids Math Teacher
ReplyDeleteLucy, I agree with your conclusion. Your dental history sounds a lot like my own. Thank you for stopping by to read and for your comments!
DeleteI cannot pass up cream soda or pineapple dum-dums. I can brush my teeth later!
ReplyDeleteAndrea, I love the grape ones! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteI've never been a fan of lollipops, but I can't pass up chocolate!
ReplyDeleteDana, I love chocolate but I can abstain if needed. Thank you for stopping in and for your kind comments!
DeleteI love lollipops. My brother and I both had them as kids - he has the best teeth in the world, I have the worst (the dentist can hear that kaching each time I walk through the door). I don't think it's the lollipops or genetics - I think it's luck - enjoy the lollipops.
ReplyDeleteSuzy, you may have something there! My luck when it came to dentists was always bad. Seems like my son takes after me. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments. Now I want a lollipop!
DeleteI remember having lollipops while I was pregnant- it helped with the nausea. So lollipops can offer benefits too. =)
ReplyDeleteCynthia, I remember trying those when I was pregnant too. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteI am not really a lollipop fan, but free candy sounds good anyway :)
ReplyDeleteAs for the dentist, mine doesn't do metal any longer, only the white fillings that cost more.

DeleteWhen I was a kid I loved the tootsie rollpops. I would sit there and count the licks like the owl and then loose patience and bite them. I don't see "free" candy here in NYC anymore. Gourmet shops like Williams-Sonoma have the best candy and treats during the holiday season to sample too...I go up at lunchtime during the holidays to drink their hot cider too!
ReplyDeleteWinnie, I always tried to count the licks like the owl too and would get tired of licking and bite through to the tootsie roll! LOL Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteThey are great tasting but not so great for your teeth! Blessings! Great post, following you via the challenge...follow back if you like!

I've never had much of a sweet tooth. I'd rather have a bag of salt & vinegar chips any day!
