One Hot Mess

It is day 15 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and NaBloPoMo and for the first time in this mad cap challenge I have felt like I have no words and don’t want to write anything at all.  Still here I am, writing something just to satisfy the challenge and the itch to write.  When this is all said in done, what you are about to read is one hot mess of words spewing from my screwy brain.

What do you write when you have no words?  What do you write when writer’s block has you tightly in its vice?  Do you just skip the day? Or do you just sit down and let the words flow from your fingertips as they will?  Well hells bells if I should know.  All I do know is that there is 3 more hours till midnight and the clock is ticking.  Really I am amazed I made it this far in this bizarre quest to blog each and every day.  I wonder about my sanity.

I read a post today that a fellow blogger shared that posed the question about whether bloggers were really writers.  Well, what are they if they are not writers?  Perhaps they have not published books per se, but they have published to the internet and guess someone somewhere has read their words.  They write so they are writers. Whether they are good or bad is beyond the point.  So what is the point if you really don’t consider yourself a writer and don’t fantasize about that 15 minutes of fame a best seller would afford you? Why write?  That is a great question and deserves contemplation.  Why sign up for a month long writing challenge?  Why waste the time?  Do you do it to raise your blog stats hoping that if you post more, you will have more readers?  It is the whole “Field of Dreams” logic that if you build it, they will come.  If you write it, they surely will read and form an opinion.  Either people will think your writing sucks ass or is right on the mark.  Some will agree, some won’t, and some will just figure you are three sandwiches short of a picnic and half past give a shit.  I have actually been there and trust me; it is not a bad place to be!!  I like to keep people guessing and leave them laughing.

When I was growing up I always fancied that I would grow up to be an artist.  That was my dream.  I never once thrilled at the thought of writing.  I never imagined or dreamed of writing a book one day or the possibility of being published.  I never in my wildest dreams fancied myself writing a blog daily or otherwise, but here I am getting it done.  Wouldn’t my high school lit and comp teacher be shocked?  I wonder if the woman is still alive.  Well if she is, she would probably be as amazed as I am that I am still writing today and even more shocked that no one has to really force me or threaten me to do it!!!

  3. I wrote a post last week when I was feeling the same as you are today! A friend read it and gave me a link to a TED Talk by writer Elizabeth Gilbert and it made a lot of sense to me! I hope you enjoy it. And kudos to you for "showing up", I know it's not always easy! http://www.ted.com/talks/elizabeth_gilbert_on_genius.html

  5. I do believe that not all bloggers are writers. Some are just chroniclers of thier time.

Having said that, I must say that I admire how you can make an in-the-grip-of-Writer's-Block day sound like a day at the park. No sandwiches missing in this picnic.
It is fun reading you, Kathy.

    1. Cynthia, WOW, that is a lovely compliment! Thank you. I just figured that if you are blogging, you are writing but you have a point. I have read some where I wondered about. Their grammar was poor and in the day and age of spell check they had misspelled words. I have even read blogs that were just one big sentence. Seriously!! So I get where you are coming from. I am so pleased you stopped by and happy that you enjoyed my ramblings as I fought through my writer's block. ♥

    1. Shilpa, LOL well I did have a writer's block and just sat down and started writing whatever came into my little head. A lot of times when I think I can't or don't want to, I simply just write. Whatever flows out is my blog for the day. It seems to work for me and I am so pleased you enjoyed my ramblings! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

  8. This writing brought a smile on my face :)like you I was also inclined artistically but never did anything about it until I started blogging. I have a long way to go as a writer but what matters is I am able to jot down my feelings daily. Coming from me that is no mean achivement because I have failed to maintain a diary all my life.

    1. Smita, I have never ever kept a diary. My mom and grandma did, but not me. In high school my composition teacher forced the whole class to keep a journal but I did what I was told and no more. That is why it is kind of funny that I ended up blogging or writing. Whatever you want to call what I do, I have been doing it for a long time. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

  9. Kathy, sometimes we need a bit of push, a challenging situation, a deadline to bring out the best in us. To know what are we capable of, to discover ourselves.. When we write, more than expressing ourselves to others, we are doing so to ourselves.. I read that blog too..but I am happy to have found a new family, one that I may never meet, here through the challenge and no matter how hard it might seem on some days..we wont let go and survive together till the very end. All for one..one for all :D

  10. such an encouraging way of looking at the topic. What would we do? Seriously why not write and paint and sing and do whatever we want. I almost could imagine you thinking all this and simultaneously jotting it down :)

  13. Interesting thoughts Kathy because I do not consider myself a writer and never have, yet here I am on a blog challenge ~ this could be why I have never really been able to "stick" with blogging ~ because I truly am not a writer?? You have given me something to ponder ~ Judi

    1. Judi, I never have either but here I am writing. Not sure what I am, but whatever it is that I do I seem to enjoy and derive such pleasure out of the interaction I experience through commenting and feedback from my writing that I continue. It is a very satisfying hobby for me and I get a lot of satisfaction out of it. It allows me to vent, it allows me to be creative, and most of all it allows me to be me...no holds barred! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥
