Vacation

It is the 8th day of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and NaBloPoMo and I am still in the game writing away!  This post is in response to this week's blogging prompt from the GBE2.

I haven’t gone anywhere for vacation since my honeymoon and that was 16 years ago.  My husband and I went away to the Lake Erie Islands for the weekend and had a great time.  Since then our vacations have been more stay-cations than anything else.

Any time my husband is home and out of his semi-truck it feels like a vacation to him and to us.  He came home the 3rd of July and has been home 5 days.  It was nice to have him home.  We got a lot done and enjoyed going out to eat, swimming in the pool, going shopping, and watching fireworks.  It was hectic at times and relaxing at others.  As always his time here goes quickly and already it is time for him to go back to work.

These days we have 4 dogs and a cat so even if we had the extra money to go on a big vacation we would have no one to watch our animals.  That is one reason why we never stray too far from home. If I could pack them up and take them all with me, I would.  Actually we have taken the dogs with us camping before.   If I
could go anywhere, I would love to take my kids to Disney World because I know they would love it.  Of course the list of all the places I would love to visit stretch into infinity and beyond!  I dream about those places and imagine what they would be like envying those lucky souls that get to throw caution to the winds and just go leaving their bills to accumulate until they return.

There are so many places I would like to see and explore!  There are so many sites I would love to see!  There are some days when I am just happy to get out of the house let alone to get completely away from here.  Funny thing though, if I did get away it wouldn’t be long before I would long for home.  While I crave the excitement and change of pace a vacation would offer, I am also content to stay home.  Sometime, someday, in some way I will get away from here and have the vacation of my life.  I just know it!!

    1. JoJo, yes having the bills and not having money sucks ass but a person tends to get used to it. Then there are those moments when you have money and you hardly know whether to hide it for a rainy day or figure screw it...it has been pouring for days...Let's Party!! This time we leaned toward the party. LOL Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments.

  2. Aaaah good ol' Disney World! I would love to go back myself. If I could pick a vacation anywhere, it would be to Puerto Rico, or to a combo of Spain and France. I think just having the chance to experience somewhere different is so nice. Maybe you could take a day trip somewhere that is maybe two or three hours away? It's not as great as Disney but it can be pretty enjoyable nonetheless.

  4. We're re-organizing our apartment, so it's more like a summer cottage. With the swimming pool down below, we
put up a clothes rack to dry our swim suits, instead of a clothes line. A staycation with a flair, so to speak.

I hope that some day you will get on a vacation to a place you really like.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

    1. Rob-bear, I hope so too. I think you have the right idea!! We have kind of done that too. We have our travel trailer parked beside the house ready for impromptu camp outs, a pool out back to take a dip, a volley ball net to play badminton and volleyball, a fire pit for campfires, and a golf cart, three wheeler, and racing tractor to zoom about the yard. Some day I will go, but until that day I have just about everything in my own back yard!! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments.

  5. I know what you mean. We haven't had a real vacation in awhile. We drove to Dayton for a nephew's special event and are driving to Michigan to help our daughter move. Last year, we went to New York for a niece's wedding and Maryland for our daughter's graduation. I guess one could call these vacations, but I'd love to go somewhere for no reason--the trip to the beach or tour of Europe. These sorts of trips don't happen anymore because we have to save our funds for those "required" trips that are still enjoyable. We also have a house full of dogs, but our niece comes over to feed them and lets them outside when we go away. One day, our youngest will graduate from college, and we'll have all of our kids off payroll. The bills will get paid and we'll go somewhere . . . that is if we're not so old that we can't leave our respirators.

  6. I have 2 cats, so if I ever want to go away I need to beg my good friend to be a kitty sitter and house sitter for me. :) It'll be easier to do so once I've moved house and she gets to stay in a nice, brand new shiny place :D But she is usually happy to look after my kittehs because it means she gets her kitty fix.

  7. That's one of the reasons why my Dad doesn't let me keep pets or plants. Who'd look after them if we had to go out of town? :(
We're quite alike, some of us bloggers. While we would like the change of scenery and some new experiences for a short while, we're also mostly content being at home and blogging away or reading or doing"stuff". I guess we crave a little bit of traveling just so we could have fresh material to blog about!

    1. Chicky, I think you are right on the mark on that one. I could go days without sticking my nose out in public as long as I have internet. But then again, if I didn't I would have my face in a book or knitting or something else. I still wouldn't be far from home. Thank you for stopping in and for your kind comments!

  8. Kathy, I can relate to this post of yours so much. While I may like to go out of home for a few days but the craving to come back home... to the comforts of the home is so high after a day or 2. We like being at home too!
But yes, one must go out once in a while to explore and experience. :)

  9. Hey Kathy - I loved that term you coined - stay cation :)
It's always a problem fi you have animals. I find that too. I have two cats and dread leaving them in anyone's care. I also miss them when I travel. But I love traveling. And living without pets is out of the question. It's a huge dilemma.

    1. Kalpana, being a stay at home mom I think it is an unspoken thing that I am always here so it is fine and dandy to have a menagerie to take care of along with the kids. Love my fur babies, but I would LOVE to go somewhere too! Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments!!

  10. OH DEAR...i hear music i never have heard before when i visit you blog and grateful for it. Today it was a bit difficult to watch!! Getting away is so different for different folks!

We use to visit Disney alot..its so EXPENSIVE now! My daughter went to LEGO world with the grands, she couldn't have done it w/o help from discount tickets and family. Remember as kids what we use to do?

So great to read about time spent with hubby :) You'll cherish these memories made and l8tr in life your kids can watch your animals!! hehe This is what ours do so we can take off. (yes after they all left the house i swear we adopted animals with their personalities!!)

    1. Brenda, I did get to go to Disney 3 times when I was a kid with my folks but I so wanted the chance to see it with my husband and kids. Unfortunately it is so expensive!! I never thought about the kids watching the animals down the line, because I guess I still hoped they would be about to go too. Thank you for stopping in and for your kind comments.

  11. I am not much for vacations, myself. I always love to have Ornery around when he has days off, and when his job takes him out of town, if possible I tag along, but it is pretty rare that we seek out any entertainments, whether because we are not easily entertained or because we just don't want to spend the money.

I am glad your husband had a few days off. I can't imagine the lifestyle of a trucker's family--I admire you greatly and appreciate the sacrifices he makes for commerce.

  13. this is the main reason why I am not getting myself a dog though I am dying to get a pet. The responsibility is so very much and husband I both love travelling so that would also get into trouble. But I have a feeling having love of pets must compensate for all the adjustments.. :)
