Weekend!

What is it about weekends that are the absolute best part of the week?  For me and the kids the promise of no work and no school makes Friday night a time for celebration.  It is a much anticipated couple days off.  It is a couple days to do whatever floats our boat.  It is a promise to stay up late and sleep in.  It promises time to have fun.  Most weekends are just another day at the office for my husband.

This weekend my husband is on the road. What’s worse is he is not feeling his best.  I worry.  I can’t help myself.  I want him here with me so I can take care of him.  If he were home and needed to be seen by the doctor, he could.  Out there the only hope for any kind of medical help is the nearest emergency room.  Even with insurance that can get expensive.

My weekends always involve a little bill paying, a little grocery getting, and if I am lucky—which I usually am, a lot of game playing.  I love games.  While my kids love playing electronic games, I prefer classic games like Monopoly and Skip Bo.  I love to play cards and have a vast collection of card games.  I love Game Wright games and have quite a collection of them. They are imaginative, whimsical, and make you think.  In that respect, they are great for kids.  I am a big kid at heart so they are especially good for me.  I love “Sleeping Queens” where the object is to wake up all the Sleeping Queens.  It is a whimsical game of Kings, Queens, sleeping potions, magic wands, knights, and dragons.  I love to submerge myself into the land of Gubs too.  It is a fun game of wit and luck where you do your best to grow your colony despite the threats or hazards.  Only the strong survive.  Another game that I am simply addicted to is Frog Juice where you cast spells, brew concoctions, and melt witches!  As you can see, I get into playing games that stoke my imagination, allow me to strategize, and strengthen my analytical skills.  I love games that fine tune my kids brains and promote their learning.

Weekends are great for movie marathons, trips to the mall to wander, reading in bed, drawing zentangles, knitting, and if we are lucky a chance to eat out.  As much as I love to cook, I still love to take a night off from doing the dishes!  Weekends are when the barriers come down.  You can enjoy your family, have fun, take care of business, and relax.  If my husband is coming home, it is always for the weekend!   It is no wonder so many people celebrate the coming of Friday and happily count the days to the next one!

  2. I've never heard of Frog Juice but it sounds awesome. I'll have to check out Toys R Us and see if they have it. With my sis being sick this weekend I think I'm just going to lounge around and watch Netflix and sew. Nothing major. Nap when I feel like it, eat when I feel like it. Lazy hazy.. Your weekends sound great Kathy. Enjoy!

    1. Mimi, Toys R Us doesn't seem to carry many if any Game Wright games. Check Amazon.com or the Game Wright website online to find out where you can buy the game near you. I love lazy hazy weekends! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! ♥

  5. Kathy, have you ever played the card game Dutch Blitz? If not, you HAVE to give it a try! If you can't find it where you are locally, it's available on Amazon for around $10, and it's seriously the most fun game ever. If you like card games, you and your kids would have a total blast with Dutch Blitz!

  6. Oh yes! Weekends are when we do things that we normally don't do on weekdays. Stay up late, sleep in for a bit longer than usual. Escape from cooking. :) I love to Play Monopoly and the Game of Life with my kids. I even have the iPad versions of these to keep the children engrossed. :)

  9. It sounds like you have wonderful weekends. But, being retired, every day feels like part of a weekend. The distinction between work and weekend is well and truly blurred.

I hope you keep having wonderful weekends, and that your husband feels much better.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

    1. Rob-bear, summers are like that around here when the kids are off school. Our days are truly blurred then too. Love the summers as well because a lot of days are spent in the pool, taking walks, or hanging out in the camper. Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments! ♥

  11. Weekends are da bomb, even when one doesn't work! My guy has been really sick too. He got home on Thursday night looking & sounding like death warmed over. Fortunately he had a doc appt on Friday. I've been waiting on & spoiling him (I do anyway even when he's healthy) and pumping him full of good foods, water and cold medication. He is looking and feeling much better now!

  12. I like the weekends, too! (Although I have to admit, after two days of my sons' fighting, I'm ready for Monday so they'll go to school!) Skip Bo was such a fun game - I haven't played that one in years! I visited my parents this weekend and watched a few movies with my mom. She's a night owl, but I managed to stay awake until about 3 am...and the kids woke me up at 7. I'm getting too old for that :) Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
