Energy

       Ever since the Writer’s Post blog hop challenge was posted Thursday I have been trying to figure out what to write about energy.  What do I know about it??  All I have been able to come up with is that I need more of it!!  I could have written a long drawn out post about the benefits of solar power or some other equally scientific rambling that in the long run I didn’t truly give a rat’s a$$ about.  I racked my brain for ways to get energized from eating, sleeping, to the wild idea of sticking energizer batteries up my butt.  It works for that little pink bunny after all!!  Honestly, I am being silly.  Don't anyone try that one at home!!

        When I searched the internet I discovered that one of the best things to elevate the old energy level was to exercise. Yes, you read that right!  Another biggie is to drink plenty of water.  Sure you can guzzle pop loaded with caffeine, but I have found that really wasn’t giving me a boost.  Aside from the increased need to pee, I still felt lackluster and depleted.  Even after sleeping in this morning, I still felt exhausted.  Since Santa Claus decided to leave a pedometer in my Christmas sock, the idea of walking had been planted in my brains for quite a while.  I decided even though it was a bit chilly out today I wanted to test out this theory.  Would a little exercise put lead in my pencil and give me the kick in the a$$ I needed to get on with life with a smile on my face?

         Armed with my pedometer, my kids and I took off for a walk that took us to my son’s school and back.  While we were there the kids enjoyed time on the playground while I played Angry Birds on my cell phone while swinging.  We took an old ball with us from home and eventually yours truly participated in a rousing game of kick ball.  It was fun!  I got a little winded, but hey!  No one can say I didn’t exercise.  My kids were shocked to see me run.  Yes, I CAN run.  I was on the cross country team in high school.  This was no marathon though.  It was a little sprinting to a base.  Still it was more running than I had done in years.  As the minutes on the clock ticked past 6:00 pm, we started back.  Amazingly enough when I reached home I no longer felt exhausted.  I felt energized!  The cold air had cleared my head of cobwebs.  I arrived home ready to take on the world. I could kick start a 747.  Well maybe not, but you get the idea.  I feel like I am on the top of the world and can just about take on anything.

        Before I left I had looked up just how many steps equaled a mile.  I knew from that search that about 2000 steps equaled approximately a  mile and was thrilled to realize upon arriving home that I had traveled over 2 ½ miles on my own power.  Not only did I not die from the added extra exertion, I actually felt really good!

      Who would have believed that getting out and exercising would really truly help me feel  more alive than I had felt in days?  I had felt so tired and depleted before the walk.  Amazing that walking 2 ½ miles and playing kick ball with my kids would give me the jump start of energy I desperately needed, but it did.  A little exercise made all the difference in the world until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.

  1. It's a funny thing how something so powerful as exercise gets pushed out of our lives. I type this from my spot on the sofa where I have spent much of the day. Kick ball sounds fun!

  3. That is one of the things about winter. I like to walk when it's nice out and by nice I mean, 65 or above and not raining bullets. I do walk in the summer months several times a week but I am not a treadmill person. Have one, never use it. It bores me and is too noisy. If I'm gonna walk, I'm gonna walk and breathe and talk with God. I might even listen for him, since I don't walk with music. ♥

    1. Jo, it was nice today although a little brisk. It was in the 50's and the sun was shining. :D Walking and talking with G0d would work, if I was alone. I was with my two chatter box kids, so communing with G0d and nature was out. It was great to breathe in that air though and run around like a maniac playing kickball! Thanks for stopping in Jo, and for your comments!

  4. Okay, you've inspired me. I will start walking again everyday unless the howling, thrusting Southwest winds come back. (They can pull the hair right off your head.) My question is if exercise makes us feel so much better, why are we so reluctant to begin it?

    1. Bronwyngordon, I have no idea. I procrastinate about exercise too. I get it in my head that it is going to kill me. LOL Then I think...I barely have the energy to get off the couch, so I don't. It is something I have to force. I hope someday I won't feel that way about it. Thank you for stopping in to read and for your comments!!

  5. Hi, Kathy! After your kind comment on my post, "A Rose By Any Other Name," I finally got the opportunity to check out your blog today. Great minds think alike! I started cross-posting my Gluten Free Gratefully blogger blog to Poky Puppy ADD It Again on BlogHer, and you'll see in "Big Girl Panties" that I talked about walking, too! 'Tis the season! Glad I found you, or you found me. (O;

  7. You have also inspired me, Kathy. You have spoken the truth.

    Yes, Joyce, I echo your comment. I used to walk during my lunch break for nearly two miles that included an incline and several trips up and down six steps. But, for the two years since my retirement, I've only haphazardly done about 30 minutes on the treadmill. It's boring as others have said and I had nothing to really encourage me to do a real workout.

    So, I'd better get outside and do some walking, at least. The weather here in West Virginia is warming up and I really have no excuse.

    1. Betty, now if I can just keep that inspiration burning brightly in myself! LOL Walking on the treadmill is not the same as getting out into the great outdoors and actually walking to somewhere. It is warming up here too and perfect for walks. Thank you for stopping in Betty!! It is so good to see you! Thanks for reading and for your comments.

  8. Alright damn it! Thanks Kathy. Obviously you're hell bent on sending me to my death! I too am going to jump on your "get moving" band wagon - and that wagon better be filled with chips and cupcakes! - I'll start walking. Don't expect me to enter any marathons any time soon but I'll walk..

    Your inspiration sucks. You know you're going to force me to post some mushy, weepy "I'm so grateful, I'm so thankful" post to you.. Do I appear to be the mushy, weepy type to you Kathy??? Why must you torture me so??? Do you really have to be such an AMAZING example??? ; )
